Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Has a huge pre season coming up. He isn't alone there though. The keys for us making finals next year is significant improvement in Conca, Bathelor, Griffiths and Vickery. If these 4 all improve noticeably than you can nearly feel safe we will make finals (barring other significant injuries).

Needs to get some white boots on.

Black boots are making him look slower than he is.

Surely your not fair dinkum?

I cant believe the comments about Conca. He is tracking just nicely for a 2nd year player.

No one seems to remember that beautiful tackle as the North player was coming straight at him. Conca didnt flinch but laid the tackle which resulted in the goal to Nahas.

I also agree Smoking Aces and think Conca will be very good in the middle of the ground in the next couple of seasons too.

I think at times though we failed to have the required support and players still went at the ball coarrier and created the overlap. Surely they should be forcing a longer kick to a contest rather than getting caught in no-mans land. They overplayed it a few times I thought.

This also frustrated me but I think it was more to do with the players not working hard enough to man-up further up the ground so our player could go and pressure the ball-carrier.

Every time we ran at the ball-carrier to pressure them, they just put the handball over the top to a loose player.
If our player didn't pressure, then the ball-carrier had an eternity to wait for a lead and scope his options, which you don't want either.

I blame the laziness in the middle and not having contact with the options up the ground, which would allow the ball-carrier to be pressured and not have options but to just quickly boot it long to a contest.

agree it cost us at times, but i think at other times our pressure is great and creates turnovers. hopefully with experience players will get better at knowing when to go and when not to.

the goal to Petrie in the last was a great example. from Swallow onwards Tiger players left there man to attack the Roo about to receive possession. all nearly made the tackle, none did, ending in an easy goal. one of those guys gets there the fraction early, or the roo fumbles we get a turnover. it, like our high press, is a dual edged sword.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Wins clearances and lots of them therefore it is very difficult to see him not having a long career ahead of him.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Got destroyed tonight by Marc Murphy. Really struggled to keep up with him on the spread and didn’t have any clue what to do at the stoppages.

Watched the man too much. Didn’t show a understanding of when to go get the ball and when too defend. Was part of the problem tonight not part of the solution.

Big lesson. I don’t think he is a tagger. At all.

Very true, but let's hope in the long term he becomes a better player from following around a gun all night.
Should be good for his development.

I with you dude - I don't know why on earth Beavis thought it would be a good idea for Conca to tag Murphy. And then when it was obvious Conca was out of his depth in the first 5 minutes, Beavis still just stuck with it.

I'm not interested in calling for Hardwicks head, but he hjas been really stinking it up on game day a lot of times this season. Maybe we need to get some sort of mentor figure at the club for him a la Bomber Thompson.

Either he's a complete moron or he realises we're not in the hunt this year and is usng these games as he should - giving players roles that might help their development. Conca got a great lesson tonight.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I've been waiting on evidence of the elite kick and elite decision maker we spent pick 6 on.
Still waiting

I actually assumed Conca was moved off him at qtr time after giving away so many frees, given Murphy seemed to spend an awful lot of time on his own from that point on. We only had to stop one player and couldn't do that.

That’s rubbish Disco. All week the club has spoke of still being in the hunt for finals. We were trying to win. Dimma was trying to win the game. And the move of Conca on to Murphy was crazy. Mostly because as a ball winner Conca has had his best three weeks as a AFL footballer. Why change his role?

And then after it was a train wreck, we kept going with it. And then when Muephy got off the chain in the last quarter we still didn’t make a move.

Poor coaching by Dimma that saw Conca have his equal lowest disposals for the year. Shocking move. Indefensible.

While you are at it, look for the evidence on Ellis' elite kicking, Dea amazing vertical leap, and Vickery's outstanding tap work. Goes to show how bad our recrtuiting is when our best backman was a rookie pick.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

We've gone from abject floggings because of a decimated list to holding our own with every team in the league thanks to bad recruiting? Wonders never cease.

Long may this bad recruiting continue.

I would argue that our recruiting is the reason we are ahead of where most thought we would be 3 years ago.

I've seen all of those in glimpses.
