Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Don't know about Conca. We clearly made a massive mistake in taking before Heppel but all this crap about elite foot skills has shown FJ to be a bit of a fool who feel in love with a player and was blinded to what was out there.

Hopefully he can come good but for me he is just another average flanker who will let you down as much as come through for you.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Are you serious? Heppel is way way way better than Conca in every facet of the game. Massive mistake by FJ.

Yes, I'm serious. I like the way Conca goes about it, and I reckon he will be a key part of our midfield rotations for many years to come. I do realise such a sentiment is unfashionable on a night of venting.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I'm not sold on our recruiting. Our team is propped up by the best 5-6 players - way more so than the top teams. If Cotchin, Delidio, Martin, Maric, Tuck, Riewoldt, Grimes and Foley don't fire or are injured, we're in trouble. We don't have the evenness of quality like Hawthorn or Collingwood do. Geelong at their best had a wonderful quality across their list.

We hope players like Conca, Ellis, Rance, Griffiths etc will develop, but I've got my doubts over many others. Until we get that evenness of quality, I worry that we'll battle hard (don't question the team's overall endeavor), but never move up the ladder due to the skill and decision making weaknesses.

Two completely different players too. We need grunt midfielders - Heppel doesn't fit this mold.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

He was hopeless, 4 FA isn't acceptable.
He is 8th in the league for FA with 27, not good enough.....where's the discipline?

Tried to tag Murphy and was embarrassed out there.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

One of the worst kicks at the club. Fumbles, has no idea where to run, runs in circles. Is a nightmare to watch most of the time.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I saw some tough inside work and good linkage.

He is a good conduit guy, but if he is on the end of a chain of handballs...problems.

Tuck has similar characteristics but works phenomenally hard to over come them. Conca about 5 years behind Tuck...

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Kicking action is a concern. Seems to collapse when rushed. Hopefully like some recent chasing efforts it improves with prolonged intensity borne out of a few more preseasons.

Kicks with his shins. I can see it, many can see it but the coaching staff have done jack schizen about it. Should go back to Coburg and learn to kick.

If you cant kick by the time you are 20 and in the AFL, its too late.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca shows a lot more composure than some of our other players.

He is not a worry for us at this stage. He will become much more effective when he gets some solid support around the place. At the moment, Reece sufferes from the fact we only have 3-4 really dependable players in the side.
