Rebuild Time

Does anyone else on here notice that the teams doing well at the moment like the Cats, Crows, Swans, all have talls up forward, and generally have big bodied players.

Yep, and can mark.

Just looking at the coaches stats.

Sadly, the great Kevin Murray has the worst figures at 0-34 (0%) in the 1963 and 1964 seasons with Fitzroy.

What's worse:

1963 he coached 17 games 0-17 but Lions finished 1-17 with a Wally Clark coaching them in R10 - their only win.

1964 he coached 17 games 0-17 and Lions finished 0-18 this time with a Tommy Williams coaching them to a loss in R8.

Poor ol' Kev...

Lets see the 10 year record

Seasons P W L D Win%
-------------------------
2010-16 157 74 81 2 47.8
2017-19 61 44 17 - 72.1
-------------------------
218 118 98 2 54.6

If you can make a case that Hardwick hasn't improved as a coach, or is past his prime, then make it. Right now you have nothing except throwing stones after we've lost a couple on the trot.

The bigger picture is much more important than the last fortnight. And the bigger picture is good.

The unfortunate fact of those figures is that he's still a bit behind Figgy.....but he'll get there.

Hardwick started with a wreck that finished second-last. Figgy was handed the keys to a machine that finished second.

Yep. I was gonna post it but didn't bother. All true though.

You Can’t be scared of trading out. Regardless who they’re. Would you trade out Rance 2 first rounders? I would.
Cotchin? I would.
Jack I wouldn’t.
I don’t want a rebuild. We have quality kids but some of our senior players are cooked. I would rather off load them now when they hold some return then wait 12 months, when basically they might have zero value.

No, you shouldn't be scared to trade. With due circumspection. Those with long memories will tell you the effect of trading The Whale.

I raised the possibility of trading Cotchin at the end of 2016, when Cotchin himself was contemplating standing down from the captaincy and the team appeared disjointed.

You would have to weigh it up if another club was prepared to sell the farm, and weigh up the effect on the club. He'll be 30 early next season and took a long time to truly find his leadership feet at Richmond. I don't see it happening.

we are 2 years 2 late. the rebuild should have started after the debacle against the saints in '17. im sure a lot of those thinking the sky is falling now would have agreed.

Actually it’s good to have that pesky premiership out of the way so we can get on to the rebuild.

you're on fire brodders ;D. And L2 has been good too. Logic is pretty futile but. I can't be stuffed responding to trolls/ fruitcakes but been enjoying it.

We rebuilt last year with Lynch so who are we going to move on this year to get another Lynch type ?.

Weren't there some calling for a rebuild early 2017? After the adelaide loss IIRC.

Amazing that we've blooded Naish, Baker, Balta, Ross and Stack and people think we need to start a rebuild.

With Jack, Rance, Cotch and Martin we are still in the premiership window for a year or two yet.

I wonder if there are similar threads on the weagles board. Just like us, they have 4 losses by over 40 points, yet we have had a way worse run with injuries.

Note there loss at the weekend, they had losses on all lines for them of important players, Hurn, Nic Nat and Yeo. Sound familiar?

The gameplan needs a rebuild at the very least. It doesn't work against good sides. The problem is that since Dimma took over, I dont believe there has been a genuine development of a skills first (and by this i really mean footskills) play style. Instead of trying to isolate your best weapons up forward we just time and time again bomb it forward.

Look at the absolute stars we have in Jack, Lynch, Dusty, Cotchin and even Caddy nearly makes that grade. Its a travesty really.

Caddy ain't a star this year, Lynch is running on three cylinders, Riewoldt and Cotchin have played eight games between them and Martin's had his issues.

Let's get the band back together and see where we're at.
