Re: Adam Goodes

Personally I think it's enough now. If you're booing coz he's black, stop it, you're a knob and if you're booing coz you think he's a knob, stop it, you've made your point.

I disagree on that premise as well. If I call him a prick over, and over, and over, and he keeps telling me I'm being racist, am I? No, he's just a prick. It has nothing to do with his colour, or race, or religion, or anything else.

It may just be that he's a crap bloke.

That's the same argument they used when he was called an Ape.

Go with a goading reply but ignore that you also avoid that which you choose to and that I did answer your question. I won't be responding to any more of your input on this.

I appreciate that thank you Knighters.

Re: Re: Round 17 - other games

The only reason I contemplate booing (I very rarely do it) is when a player does something to one of ours.

I have, though, booed at some umpires.

I really don't like doing it though, it brings out the moron in me :help

Whether he said it at the same time or not and whether he was backing off he still chose to do it. His actions didn't exactly match his words.

What actions afterward didnt match his words?

Its a shame we cant boo someone at the footy for the first time ever in history. For those that dislike the public adam g ie the only one any of us really know (by all accounts a great fella privately but how could we know that AG?) we just have to be told how to act in our educated tolerant society. Irony at its best. I live in a community that is 10% indigenous and have many friends who are aboriginal so my comments are not intended to comment about race but rather declining free speech in our most "enlightened" age. Dont dare disagree with political correctness or the afl or you wont be tolerated in this age of tolerance.

Interesting how their are three distinct camps on this topic. Can kind of see how different political parties came to be.

If Adam Goodes set about to create a massive social experiment, I would say he came out a 100% winner!

Just noticed Derm copped it from Rebecca Wilson. This issue is getting way out of hand IMO.

Geeez! You need to start booing for that to happen? You must be doing it wrong.

So everyone's booing Cyril or Eddie or Buddy, or any of the other seventy or eighty indigenous players that runs out each week? Or any of the other ethnic or minority races / cultures that front up each game?

There's certainly a fair bunch in the crowd who are simply stupid enough to carry on like pork chops for no more valid reason than the fact that they can. From my point of view, I wouldn't bother wasting energy during this period booing Goodes n copping the racist stereotype but, the blokes done a few things in recent years that for me put him in the self centered prat category n now he n a few mates in the media n H.Q. want to get all pretentiously sensitive n anti racist about it. Stirring up way more *smile* than it's worth.

Rarely if ever booed at players from over fifty years watching all levels of footy ( usually prefer to reserve my energy for the maggots ;D ). Essendrugs have copped it a couple of times n deservedly, there's been a couple of dirty mongrel thugs have copped a spray over the years n one or two most hated F wits.
Far as I'm concerned Goodes has been a champion player over his career n gets cut a little slack but I reckon he's managed to tip a bit of the sh!te bucket onto his own head over the last few seasons n I'm not surprised there's a few who've hopped into him n the sheep have simply followed, so now we have a circus.

Totally agree. People don't boo him because of his colour or background, they boo him because of some poor behaviour on the field and his pretentious holier than though approach to life. He claims to want to improve the views on the indigenious community who have been looked down upon by other ethnic backgrounds, by doing the exact same thing back to them!! A truly crazy approach if you ask me.

Whilst I don't condone booing, I grew up in the UK and quite frankly a bit of booing is absolutely NOTHING compared to what officials and players get playing soccer in the UK. You need a thick skin to play top level sport, unfortunately it doesn't appear as if Goodes or Jetta to that matter have a thick enough skin to look past a bit of booing. Some of the abuse of players I have seen in the UK would probably have Goodes sitting on the floor rocking back and forth.

Too many are misquoting and judging others. Twisting a few words can add a whole new, even if inaccurate, connotation. Almost an ill-informed attack on someone's character. It's an awful situation. I hope I'm wrong but I can't imagine it going away until Adam Goodes retires.

No. They're booing Goodes.

Why?

You brought up 'imaginary racism'.

It's NOT imaginary.

Agree. It's best he retires because, IMO, his ego has terribly damaged his reputation, as Indigenous players of now and before have never mentioned 'booing' as part of the racist comments they copped. Isn't booing the clear issue here?

He does what? To whom? How? When?

Irrespective of who's right in this debate it certainly is providing a free platform for the me me me types to push their brand and be noticed. Some of whom id suspect couldnt care less for the aboriginal people. Dare i say the same thing when someone famous dies. Some can turn the story back to themselves rather than honoring the deceased. I knew them... very self centred society evolving before our eyes.
