Re: Adam Goodes

I don't think the booing is universal though. It's more from the Hawks than anyone else which would suggest it's not race based.

Surprise surprise, SEN, the home of the white middle aged bogan (and I'm one of them), has a plethora of indignant callers claiming its nothing to do with race. All about his behaviour. And I can understand part of that, he has done some underhanded stuff and is a serial stager. However I imagine for many it is the uncomfortable feeling they get when the past is raised. These people need to stop thinking they are being blamed for the past. They are simply being asked to understand it and perhaps have some empathy for the challenges indigenous Australians face.

If Goodes chooses to use his football career to spruik his message he'd surely have to expect to cop some flak from football supporters who don't agree.

If Goodes is booed as a result of racist fans why isn't Buddy, Hill, Edwards, Ryder, Dempsey, Hill, Walters, Motlop, Krakouer, Varcoe, Rioli and every other Indig player booed?

The Jake Niall article quoted above talks about that.

Don't agree with the message? Or the fact he used his position as australian of the year? I don't quite understand what message he has conveyed that football supporters should be unhappy with?

Might have to boo Miles, he is a bit of a ducker

Well said jimbob.
Goodes is a champion footballer and a good person trying to make the world a better place, not a worse one.
He does his race proud and is a great role model for aboriginal people.
Geez when you think of some of the scumbags who play our game who don't get booed.
Beggars belief. Really does. :(

Nicely said Too.

Massive chip on his shoulder. My most disliked person who has been involved in the game.

There is no doubt in my mind that Goodes did this as a response to the Hawthorn boos last week. If thats the case, this is evidence that Goodes thinks the boos are racially motivated.... which is absolute bullcrap in my opinion.

By stoking the fire, once again Goodes is proving he believes in his own self importance and people will react to this... I'm expecting more boos to come his way in the next few weeks.

Very very provocative doing a war dance towards the Carlton supporters. What would the punishment to me be if I pointed a pretend gun at Goodes? His excuse that it was a celebration doesn't wash with me. If it was a celebration why didn't he do it with his own supporters and indigenous teammates. When teams do war dances eg haka, they do it at the opposition team not the supporters. Goodes' act caused security and police to converge on the area. He should be severely sanctioned by the AFL (my guess is that they will be gutless and do nothing). I can also refer him to some excellent shoulder surgeons to get that chip removed!!

Well said Joe. He sooked during the week that his family hurt when he's booed then he comes up with an extremely provocative act like that. Shows who and what he cares the most about. Initials Adam Goodes.

Kicked the goal in front of the carlton supporters. Didn't go out of his way to run over to them. Maybe he should have ran the length of the field to where the sydney supporters were.

He didn't have to do it there and then. Picked his target for maximum exposure. Low act.

I struggle to understand the fuss from both sides.

It's hard to believe the Goodes boos are racially motivated when Franklin, on the same team, doesn't get them.

It's hard to believe anyone can take offense at his war dance.

But the most difficult to swallow is that in this day and age, in Australia, we still have such large issues regarding race, color, whatever.

So an indigenous player, during indigenous round celebrates a goal with an indigenous dance is a low act. Seems pretty unfair I reckon.

Great theatre for the Indigenous round. He sure has people talking.
Personally I thought it a little OTT. Would have been better if not directed at the opposition supporters which was disappointing IMO.
