Rance

using this logic players like buddy ,roughhead ,hodge ,cousins, kerr, etc etc would have been dispensed with after their first season......Tigers 2011 lets at least give him 3-4 seasons before we make a judgement of sorts

We haven't got time to give him 3-4 years. The next 2 years will tell the tale, one way or another.

We can't afford Schulz like situations where we've had a player on the list for 6-7 seasons that hasn't improved at all.

As far as the other players mentioned, I remember all of them showing something (as Post and Vickery already have) within their first season. Franklin kicked three against us in one of his first games at the MCG in 2005.

When Rance does something, I'll be the first to acknowledge it.

11 games, 11 god damn games, and the boots are aimed at Rance's head.

I can't think of one outstanding mark, difficult kick well executed under pressure, gather a bouncing ball in tight position etc.

What's the defintion of outstanding, you mean Post like - no he hasn't but has taken a contested mark. I have seen him kick under pressure and has mopped up under pressure, overall is satisfactory so far. Give him another season and if he continues then I'll jump on your bandwagon because he reminds more of Duncan Kellawayish type player.

Shoot on site!!!

He makes some real errors but the kid is having a crack and clearly needs some development, but is def a long termer. Love his agression and enthusiasm.

Here, here. I think Rance shows plenty of promise & needs another couple of years to show his real potential.

What amazes me is that the same people that have run out of patience with Rance are the same people that want to give players like Shultz & Hughes yet another chance.

Unfortunately with Thursfield, McGuane, Moore, Rance we have 4 similar types.

We can afford to let one of them go and this is what the club needs to do to gain an extra pick or upgrade a draft choice.

Let McGuane or Rance go and upgrade on our PP or 2nd Rounder. Rance is useless. Happy to use him and Hislop as part of "The Tank."

He is a young kid but the concerns on his playstyle are very real. At the moment he doesn't know how to take the body at all in marking contests or use his frame to his advantage, all he can do really is play the loose man. Unless he learns how to do this (which will take a lot of time as this should come natural to defenders) he will never hold down a KPD post. Also he isn't a great kick despite what some people think, would rate him a 4 out of 10 in that area at most.

He was meant to be that tall, big bodied CHB we really need to take the monsters, all he looks like is an oversized 3rd tall who doesn't know the mechanics of dendings who has poor skills. He almost looks like someone who has been played as a forward his whole junior career and then has been chucked into defence at AFL level.

Silly comment. Bit too early to be saying Rance is useless. Will need another two years. Worth perservering with.

How does give him 3-4 years, equate to Sarges 6-7?

TAMBLING is crap, TAMBLING is a dud, TAMBLING is useless...RANCE is crap, RANCE is a dud, RANCE is useless... :hihi

Perfectly happy to have 4 of these types. IMO we need at least 3 such defenders each week. Plus a backup in case of injuries.

I don't mind that as long as the back-up is a young developing player
In this case Rance

The question is can the 'back-up' can step up to become a regular?

If the answer is yes then one of the group probably should be moved on (including Rance) if the trade is good
and then a new back-up/young developing player can be drafted

The next question is which one?

Exactly

The reason people had patience with Hughes and Schulz is that they offered glimpses.

Hughes kicked goals in the firsts and kicked straight.

Jay could take contested mark and had good field kicking.

Rance can.................................??

Hughes will be gone year's end. Jay will struggle.

Lets move Rance on while he has some value. Along with Tuck and Raines we may be able to collect a few second or third round selections or work some trade for players we need i.e a Charman type to help the developing rucks

Dear me Lamb, you are dribbling today

Rance is young and has shown enough to keep me happy at this stage.

I honestly cannot believe some are already asking for his axing. Were you not all going feral 12 months ago that Terry wasn't promoting him to the seniors already?

Give the kid a chance, he is young, and far from a write off

Typical MB - will defend the half full type (or in Rance's case the empty glass type) as nauseum while they clog up the list for another 5 years.

MB you accept mediocrity too easily.

PS Are you still on the Bowden bandwagon?

I happily give the kids a chance if they show something.

Edwards, Riewoldt, Connors, Collins and this year Vickery and Post all showed something. A few of those players are a few years off making an impact at AFL level - they will be up and down but it should be worth the wait. Dont see how Alex wil make it - maybe as a tagger or a forward but the problem with him is that he is too poor a decision maker to run the ball out and too poor a contested player to be a key defender - Where do you play him?
