R12 - Geelong v Richmond (game day thread)

Dow, McAuliffe, Sonsie all disappeared in the second half.

We didn't get the ball out of our half the whole quarter and its HFF's that get blamed (btw yours was just the 1 I clicked on).

We were gassed 2nd half, having a midfield of Graham (1st game back), McAuliffe as a 1st year player and Dow who doesn't have a tank still (thats the biggest disappointment I have with him) and thats the game right there. Look at the players that took it up in the midfield, Atkins (26 ort 27), Holmes (was always a great runner and is now what 22?), Bruhn (who's 22) and Bowes (who's 26). It was entirely expected that we would lost track of them. You could see it in the 1st half, something like 3 of 5 goals kicked by them were after 25 mins of each quarter, indicating quite clearly that we were likely to be over run by them).

I thought we had a real crack in the 1st half. Graham looked good in the midfield, McAuliffe showed what we will be watching for the next 10 years, I thought Dow had a decent half, won clearances but the same issues with him appear in every game, poor kick, no tank and doesn't get involved in transition (10 of 15 disposals were contested again).

I'm reviewing tonight based on the 1st half personally, it shows that when we are up and about and are fit, we can take it up to most teams. We have skilled players but they got exposed through tiredness in the 2nd half.

Last quarter was like dogs and lions games. Too much inexperience and way too many mistakes by senior players makes it look heaps worse. Horrible to watch and sometimes easier to not watch when the team performs like this but perspective and patience is needed. Just hope when Dusty does play his 300th that we can play close to 4 quarters for him. To dish up what we offered tonight would not be right for such a champion.

We have too many who stop and prop. Pickett, Bolton, Cumberland, Baker and Mansell for starters. Good players, but it just leads to defenders flooding our forwards. Today's game requires straight-line running as often as you can. We badly need athletic MacAuliffe and Hugo types for the future.

How Geelong picked up Bowes and pick 7, for a bag of chips, absolute steal.

The 3rd good game Bowes has played in about 6 years

No coincidence it was against a midfield with 20 games collectively.

Love what yze is doing.

Hope dusty is on a plane to GC for a week off, then The G for 300th

Thought it was the older guys in the back half that disappointed me the most.

Broad, Rioli and Vlastuin were all really poor.

Indeed. It’s ok for McAuliffe, his first half was immense.

Broad and vlas both poor tonight. Heaps of mistakes, fumbles and poor decisions. Almost tried to make sure we lost!

Mansell just can’t get his hands on the ball. 6d, 2 after 1/4 time. I really don’t see what he offers.

Tries hard ............. If Hugo hit contests like Mansell does hed be a real likely type, and if Mansell could run and cover ground like Hugo hed also be more useful.

And if I had wheels, I’d be a bicycle.

Reckon for the first time since the last flag, I’m excited to be the underdog again and am getting enjoyment out of seeing young players who could make us great again.
