R12 - Geelong v Richmond (game day thread)

How Geelong picked up Bowes and pick 7, for a bag of chips, absolute steal.

We looked real good in the first half with many of the kids starring.

If not for a couple of critical errors (looking at you Sonsie and Pickett) we could’ve gone six goals up.

Geelong are a big-bodied team and were always odds-on to gain the ascendency against striplings.

Apart from two blips we continue to make a good account of ourselves on the way to what will hopefully be a fruitful trade and recruiting period.

And Yze? Yes, he can coach.

I like how we are tracking whilst maintaining a realistic eye on the many gaps in our list.
This.

Some genuine positives first half. Tiring youth plus general sub-top-tier fitness levels (organisation based) from the non-youth made it look completely different towards the end. If the first half intent and movement is the aim, with 99 top 10 players not playing, it looks ok. But seriously some changes needed conditioning - super experienced players look more gassed than at the end of a final.

Dow, McAuliffe, Sonsie all disappeared in the second half.
McAuliffe gets a pass - at least he had a great first half and he is a kid in his first season.. what game 3? Dow is delist material - been in the system a fair while now and is too slow, can’t lay a tackle or make a tackle and can’t kick. Sonsie … yeah disappointing really

I think we had 10-12 inside 50s for the 2nd half. All the forwards were just starved of opportunity so I wouldn’t be marking Sonsie, Lefau, Cumberland etc too hard on the 2nd half

Putting emotions aside. Prob perfect result, showed a bit in first half, and maintained draft position.

Not unexpected unfortunately. Our inexperienced midfield was just gassed. More seasoned midfield of Taranto, Hopper, Prestia and Bolton would make an enormous difference. However, another game into the future core (y)

You cannot win any game with no structure up the field. It was a massive issue in the second half. We must be tanking or Adem is clueless?? I think we are tanking personally.

They need to rest Pickett. He is clearly distracted . He was the single biggest contributor to the momentum change. He clearly has little confidence. Fumbles, poor decisions, brain fades. He almost singlehandedly brought the cats back into the game.

Sonsie had a lot of promise that hasn't come through.
Definitely not a forward, did have a lot of nice touches that led to scoring shots, coughed up a few easy goals. Too slow and no aggression (so it seems) to play mid though. Not sure where he fits with a full team. Maybe trade out?

I'm surprised nobody has pointed out how poor Vlastuin was. He looked at sea and lost, not a single intercept mark.

I think there's huge upside from the last two weeks. It'd be great if people in this thread took pause when commenting how bad kids with less than 20 games look against a Geelong team that has been meticulously run for two decades at the top of the ladder.
They recruit very well and introduce their debutants slowly, with plenty of leadership. All of this is severely lacking at RFC currently.

Dow got found out when Graham got gassed, and got carved by Bowes.

McAuliffe ran himself into the ground.

Sonsie lacks intent he just doesn't look to be moveing with any urgency, he doesn't even seem to push hard to the footy even when it's kicked to his advantage, I though he was supposed to be a midfielder . Seems to spend more time watching the footy than going to it. Like I said maybe hes under instruction,.

True that :))
