PRE Phantom Draft 2013

Pick 49 - West Coast

Tom Cutler - Oakleigh

Position: Defender/Midfielder
Height: 190cm
Weight: 85kg

Interesting player, with some rating him a smaller version of Ben Reid as a defender, although the Eagles view him as a midfield prospect. Obviously has a strong defensive aspect to his game, which the Eagles are looking for. As mentioned in the drafting of Abbott earlier, the Eagles have some glaring weaknesses on the HBF, and expect to see Cutler given a role as either the loose man or the rebounding defender until he matures into the midfield role. A nive kick with good decision making skills.

Richmond are sticking to the script in their efforts to bolster their midfield stocks. They were very interested in Lang but also had a smokey up their sleeve who may be slipping under the radar a little, that player is Woodville-West Torrens midfielder Riley Knight. At 180cm and 73kg, Knight has a nice balance of inside & outside capabilities that should appeal to recruiters.

Knight's carnival was nothing to write home about, he was serviceable playing from a forward flank averaging 16 possessions and 5 marks, but it is important to note that he is actually a highly prolific midfielder when playing in the SANFL u/18's. How prolific you may ask? Well given many in the football world have been waxing lyrical about Brad Crouch's severe case of leather poisoning, Knight has had a similar bout of Sherrinitus. In his 6 games before being cut down by injury, he averaged 35 disposals 9 marks and 5 tackles. Now it's probably fair to say that TAC is cut above SANFL u/18's, probably due to the extremely talented guys being promoted to reserves and seniors, however Knight ticks some of the critical boxes required of an AFL aspirant. Firstly, his tank is huge and his beep test of 15.6 means he'll have no trouble in running out games. His disposal is also impressive, and while he won't be the line breaking match winner, he'll be the one farming out the ball to the outside runners and setting up attack from a contested situation. His versatility is also a plus, he should be able to serve out an apprenticeship from a half forward flank, and his clever ball use will be welcomed with open arms by any hungry key forwards.

Turk has PM'd me his preferences. With Hewett off the board he has gone with pick #48 Robin Nahas...

Kidding. Darcy Lang to GWS.
Thanks Tigs ;)
Darcy Lang - Geelong Falcons midfielder 181cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 21/11/1995

Sorry Bullus :hihi - Really liked both Hewett & Lang and was tossing up between the 2 lads both played as 17 year olds and showed alot in slightly different ways
as bullus has already mentioned in his cry :hihi the kid is an inside ball magnet thats has great hands and is very accurate with his disposal to get the ball out (can never have enough of this type) Kicks well on both feet and has got good pace and endurance to run out 4 quaters with massive upside being so young.
Very happy to have 2 Geelong Falcon boys in Bourke & Lang
I have no doubt that Darcy will become a very very good player and was unluck due to his injuries that he has slid so far to GWS #48 could easily have been a top 20 selection had things gone better for him.

Watching a list of possible picks whittled down to one!

Carlton pick 51 - Alex Spencer

Alex will strengthen the Blue's defence & has the ability to go forward.
Solid one on one & a good mark, 150+ game player for the Blues.

It's just a game Everton, nothing at stake, just a few blokes pretending to pretend to be pretenders.
The only reality in the whole phantom draft is Halloween, beautiful stuff ToOld

if his arms and legs stay attached to his body it will be ;D

:hihi

Seriously talented kid though, would have been top 20 if not for the injuries IMO

Essendon pick 55 - James Sicily

Versatile 185cm utility with strong hands and a great competitive nature. Can see him playing on a wing at the top level though he's a very natural footballer and can adapt to a number of positions. More than adept as a forward and could learn the craft there while developing physically as he's only very slight. Been compared to Fyfe though not sure his ceiling is quite that high. Bombers table quite happy to land him at the tail end of a weak draft
