PRE Phantom Draft 2013

Pick 42 - Western Bulldogs

Jay Kennedy-Harris Oakleigh Chargers

Standing at 173cm and 67kg, Kennedy-Harris is a quick and skilful small forward who not only has a bag of tricks up his sleeve but also has a good defensive game. Excellent goal sense and has the ability to push up through the midfield. Co-captained the Oakleigh Chargers this year.

Good get. Will be an Eddie Betts clone. Very light but so quick and tackles like he is 85 kgs. Reckon he goes top 30 on the day.

Pick 43 - West Coast

Brenden Abbott - Claremont

Medium Defender
Height: 188cm
Weight: 95kg

While the Eagles midfield failed to fire this year, they also looked very vulnerable across HBF when Hurn and Waters were either out of the side or not on song. For much of the year the Eagles lacked the rebound/drive expected at AFL level coming out of defence and it hurt them. Abbott is a real x-factor type who is noted for his extreme pace and agility in a big unit. He jumps like a grasshopper on steroids and is very good over head as well. His leg and upper body strength is also a feature, and he doesn't mind the physical side of the game, having already played in a senior regional league because quite frankly he could have killed kids his own age. He is a very good kick of the football. Think Dustin Martin.

Similarly to Dusty, he has an off field reputation, and is very prone to homesickness which staying in WA should help. The other big knock on him is a lack of endurance. But at this point in the draft, the Eagles will not risk him getting nabbed by another team.

Cheers Scoop.

I'm tipping he'll go mid 20's and possibly to the Lions at #25 in the real thing.

Great get in the forties, notched up 14 tackles against the Falcons this year and can read the play as well as anyone in the draft. A much safer bet than Impey & Wilson IMO, he's the TAC big improver in 2013 and should respond well to an AFL environment. I was hoping he'd last to 50 but alas, it just reminds me how far out we are from the main action. There's only one more junior I'm keen on at this point, then it's back to SLR land. I wonder if he'll go in the next 8 picks???

Pick #44 - Sydney - Rory Lobb 205cm/98kg

I have others a bit higher on the board but I can't afford to let a ruck slip through. If Sydney don't need a ruck then I don't know a team that does. Big, lanky ruckman who comes from a basketball background. First year of serious footy at Swan Districts and held down the no.1 ruck spot for majority of the season. Still some good players on the board at this stage.

Back to the drawing board AGAIN!

Port select another local boy. This time mobile key defender Cameron Giles (195cm 93kg)

Has a few rough edges wins plenty of footy, runs the ball well out of defence, decent disposal and a fairly strong mark.

(I've always wanted to say this):

We couldnt beleive Toby was still available at pick 47! and we couldn't call his name out quickly enough! Under 18 All Australian ruckman for 2013 and I bet Richmond are bleeding they didn't get him! 8-

Pick 50 is looking like no-mans land, but I'll just have to get a bit more creative, take a few more risks.

Thanks , ive corrected that to pick 47 not pick 50

Oldie, you might want to add the Harris at the end of Kennedy to avoid any confusion. ie. Jay Kennedy-Harris

Turk has PM'd me his preferences. With Hewett off the board he has gone with pick #48 Robin Nahas...

Kidding. Darcy Lang to GWS.

Holy cow, my hidden gem has been snatched from my clutches. Nice pick-up Turk, once again I've been shafted. 80% efficiency at TAC level, looked superb at the champs before dislocating his ankle but was invited to the combine just the same. He's got a bit of toe about him as well and can take a dash when needed. Incidentally, I checked his Twitter and his recovery seems to be progressing well so I expect him to be picked up in November.

Lang is exactly the type we have ignored in the second & third rounds, he's the discount Brad Crouch and is a risk worth taking at this point in the draft.

Pick 50 sux!!
