PRE Phantom Draft 2012

With Pick 17 Fremantle Selects Ben Kennedy from Glenelg/South Australia

Left-footed small forward/midfielder with explosive pace and rare agility. Prolific ball winner who excels at stoppages and is extremely dangerous around goals with set shots or snaps. In 2011 won All Australian NAB AFL Under-18 Championship honours.

North were having a hard time deciding between Kennedy and Hrovat. Both very talented players who could potentially cover for the veteran Boomer Harvey. Hrovat has done a bit of work with Harvey and we at North tend to a bit wary of the South Australian boys...
In the end we have opted for Nathan Hrovat.

Good pick TD. I like Hrovat a lot.

Both midgets will probably finish their careers in the top half dozen of the draft

OK, Scumwood gets to pick now. We were getting hopeful that Lachlan Plowman would last a couple more picks so we could retire Nick Maxwell early but no such luck.

Having two consecutive picks here makes life a little bit easier for us. We reckon we need a few players to get us back to Premiership-winning form but the most important weakness that we have to address is our forward line, especially our tall forwards. What we learnt in 2012 was that once Travis Cloke is distracted, we got nuthin'. Dawes was about as useful as a $5 unbrella in a hurricane and we couldn't wait to dump him. But what alternatives do we have? Jackson Paine is still young, the Big Q might help, but only for a year or two and after that the pantry is empty. We need Power Forwards, strong, reliable ones like Cloke, not big doofus types like Dawes. Its a pity that there isn't much available to us here.

Thank God for Tim Membrey. Only 188 cms, which is not that big a deal, he's about the same height as Dunstall and Brereton. He is a big, strong, country lad with plenty of tricks and about as close as we are going to get to what we need.

Pick 18: Tim Membrey.

This is a midfielder's draft, so we have to make sure we get one of those as well, we are negligent if we don't. We were hoping for Nathan Hrovat, but alas, the last couple of picks have not been good to us.

Pick 19: Sam Colquhuon. That's the sort of midfielder we like, quick and skilful.

Adelaide Pick 20: Pass. After our disgraceful salary cap rorting we shouldnt have this pick so we wont.

on second thoughts pick 20:
Taylor Garner. a medium forward who will complement our attack.

Garner would be a Magpie on the real Draft Day for exactly the reason that Adelaide wouldn't get their pick.

We may as well keep topping up our big forwards now. This guy has a lot going for him but his 2012 season has supposedly been avarage. Still, he is 197 cm tall and can take a grab.

Pick 21: Mason Shaw.

Clurey for me thanks.

Sorry that I have had no time to to do the write ups. I'll get around to it later today.

When I said there was the perfect player for GWS on the board at 14, this was it.

I'm assuming Kurt Tippett has nominated for the draft? If so, Sydney are very pleased to have finally secured their man despite Kurt being found guilty of draft tampering and being suspended for 12 matches.

Already been taken by GWS I believe.

Edit: nevermind GWS were planning to take him at 28. Carry on.

At pick 24, Lions pick Kamdyn McIntosh. KPP defender from Peel Thunder. Versatile, can play on talls and smalls. Shut down player.

Has performed at senior level, averaging 17 touches, 5 marks and 3 tackles in the last 4 games.

McIntosh should be the answer to our aging back line where we rely too heavily on Merrett and Maguire.

Damn you SCOOP!

Do you see either Wright or Graham sliding to us in the real thing?

Yep. I like both. Think they both are Dimma types. Ruthless attack on the ball, team first footballers and solid citizens.

Really like Graham. Think of Jordan Lewis and you have the type of footballer he is.

Melbourne take Jack Viney because Demestos said we have too.

A Melbourne son who will shine on our end of season trips to China. Thankfully a pick in the 20s so he want cop the criticism our other failed high profile choice, Jacqui Watts, does when he fails to live up to expectations.

GW$ Pick 28 : Tanner Smith (194cm KPD, Vic somewhere)

Just feel we need to shore it up at the back again, another Mexican but whaddayagonnado? I'll back us in to draft or trade another ruck aaand another good mid next year.

Clearly this format isn't working and hope we can cooperate next year to a scheduled time (& do your research before hand). Real drafts have a time limit of two minutes is it? Personally don't like wasting my time and other people's time...

Every year we have people who whinge it takes too long. If it bothers you that much... don't be a part of it. It is what it is.
