Pics 15 & 26 ND 2011 - Who should we pick?

With Morris recruited into the back line, Maric in the ruck and likely midfielder McCarthy in the PSD - could our first pick be that lead up forward like Markworth, Murdoch or Kersten or even Crozier with some one like Smith or Sheridan earmarked for our second round pick? I wouldn't put it past FJ to surprise us all once again.

Could someone please let me know when the 'big event' takes place today and how I can watch it all unfold?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Today is like AFL Christmas for Tiger supporters. Going to be hard keep my mind on the job.

It is a bit sad really, it'll be nice when September is the most exciting time of the year for us.

WHAT IT NEEDS Finally the Tigers have a balanced list, having recruited a host of key talls and bolstered their midfield stocks.

Disagree, we're still light on for talls depth wise.

Quality mids are more plentiful and quicker to reach AFL standard.

And?

Our midfield is in dire need of help.

Our key forward stocks while it could use another as depth is not so dire.

15 and 26 should have nothing to do with needs. We don't have an abundance in quality in any position on the ground. We will have our rankings, what ever falls to us we take, simple. Depth should be addressed through PSD and rookies. It looks like we are going to address some of our midfield issues with McCarthy.

Disagree.

It's that not that black and white IMO. If at 15 and 26 the best available was 2 ruckman would you take 2 ruckman with those first 2 picks? Because using that logic you would.

Unless Kersten is far and away the clear best talent I'd be taking a mid (Adams/Kavanagh) or HFF (Crozier) over him. Especially if there's little or not much between them.

Read the second sentence. We don't have an abundance in quality in any position. Taking 2 KPF would be a mistake, but taking 1 KPF certainly would not.

But you said "15 and 26 should have nothing to do with needs".

If there was 2 of the same type of player at both picks and were best available, not taking both would have something to do with needs. Bit of a contradicition there. Yes, quality is the main contributing factor however if in the case there's not a lot between certain players needs does and should come into it. It's naive to think otherwise.

With the failures of Morton & Taylor over the past couple of years, rightly or wrongly I think we might look for a quality mid sized forward so Kertsen & Crozier would be firming with our first selection. Personally I would prefer we take a quality mid who can kick goals when required. You can always play them forward as we have seen with Dusty & Cotchin this year. Whether that player is available or not is the question.

Yes I see the contradiction. I'm not making a blanket statement that we always apply, I'm taking into account what appears to be available in this draft. The point is that we shouldn't take mids with 15 and 26 if we rate a tall player higher. I understand when players are ranked the same, then needs comes into play, the important thing there being that it is the second priority to quality.

Who will it be now?

Emma Q - Has us locked on Bradon Ellis
Inside Footy - Taylor Adams, Docherty and recently Brandon Ellis
AFL - Has us passing on Taylor Adams and instead picking Docherty
Herald Sun - Originally were all over Taylor Adams, then last night changed to Docherty and then this morning Kersten
The West - Has us taking Kersten if Taylor Adams is gone.
Benny - This morning says we need some luck for the player we want to drop - Could be any of Kersten (Bris considering), Docherty (Bris considering) or Taylor Adams (GWS and Bris strongly considering).

The first time since we had pick 13 and got Riewoldt that I haven't known the day before who we were taking. Conca, Martin, Vickery and Cotchin were clear from a fair way out.

I would back Emma everytime, however, I am sort of hoping she is wrong this time around. I would really like Kersten and then Forster or McKenzie as our outside mid with great skills at 26. One or both should be avaliable at 26.

I am surprised that there hasn't been much talk of Longer possibly being picked up by Port.

They seem content to have their ruck division headed by Lobbe at this stage with them possibly looking at a ruck later in the draft.

If Port picked Longer, it would shake things up a bit and GWS might have to snare another ruck (possibly Bolger) early, with another player sliding.

None of us really know but what that says to me is that we want one of the highly rated mids. I haven't heard that Brisbane are looking at Kersten, although imo they need him more than we do .
