Pick 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

It's tough. We need some more inside grunt for now and the future, but we also need a bit of outside flash for right now. Gartlett is tempting me more and more. Will never lay 12 tackles, but will cut a lot of sides up on the wings and flanks. Then again you may get the same from Kennedy.

My question mark on Kennedy is if his fitness is good enough to spend a lot of time in the midfield.
Racked up plenty of possies in the champs :

37D, 4G 3B vs Tas.
31D, 2G 2B vs NT
16D, no score. (named best for SA in a loss) vs Vic. M
22D, 1G 1B vs WA
26D, 2G 1B vs Vic. C

Named in the best 4 of 5 games but did rack up the possies against the 2nd tier sides.

Don't think fitness will ever be an issue for this one, does a lot of long leads aswell which is a big plus in my book.

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

He is my early favourite but as long as we get more mids I'll be happy

Hi guys, long time listener, first time caller etc.

Thought I'd throw in a hypothetical:

Gysberts is apparently seeking a trade from Melbourne, and I like the cut of his jib; reckon they would accept a swap of 13 and Gysberts for 9 and maybe White/Post/McGuane as steak knives? I've no idea how they rate Gysberts so that may be well under their asking price. Say they accepted though, and we land Vlastuin with 13, we get Vlastuin and Gysberts for pick 9 and White/Post/McGuane. Two fancy names for the price of one. Could free us up to take someone like McBean with one of our 2nd rounders too. Thoughts?

Isn't Vlastuin a back flanker, or I am over getting him mixed up with somebody else? After drafting Ellis and Bachelor, I wouldn't have thought this was our first priority

Vlastuin in a midfielder in the Bartel mold, he was forced to play on the HBF during the carnival because he was recovering from an ankle injury which affected his ability to run out the games.

Being lazy here but, hasn't Troy already had the LARS surgery?

Yep tipping that the Menzels have genetically weak knees, just like the Grimes have genetically fragile hamstrings, and others like Griffiths have floating or shallow shoulders.

From memory both incidents related to Daniels ACL tears were incongruous not involving a collision or impact from opposition players twisted under legs in a tackle etc.

Poor Lee Walker from Collingwood was a real talent but he belonged to a family full of knee recos his brother and father had em and he had 3.

Were all born with genetic weaknesses.

Don't know about you Craig, but I wouldn't go near a kid who had a reco with LARS. Had a chat with on Orthopod surgeon after Rodan had his second, he wasn't a fan at all and wouldn't consider it a viable option unless you were an older player trying to squeeze an extra year or two out of your career.

He questioned the viability of the artificial ligament long term, I think the word he used was "fraying". He also said the proceedure made it far more difficult to go back later and do a traditional reco. No Menzel for me.

Welcome to PRE mate. Don't know much about Gysberts myself, hope you get some replies from others though.

Who ever advised Menzel to have lars surgery done is an idiot.

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Would people be upset Caddy for #9 ? It would get it done.

I had LARS surgery four years ago, and I've been playing competitive soccer twice a week ever since.

I've also done all the research, read all the journals, and current information shows that LARS has the exact same rate of reinjury as the traditional method.
Not better, not worse.
Also, it has the added advantage of not shortening the hamstring tendon, as the traditional surgery does, which is a significant factor for any football player. Look at what happened to Mark Coughlan, had both his hamstrrings chopped for knee reco's, and then kept tearing them till his career was over.

As i said, I had the LARS surgery, and I was playing soccer again after three months, I have been playing since, and I haven't even had a twang or twinge since.

Also, Troy Menzel is a must get. He kicked nine goals in a game. If he's anything like he's brother he's worth the gamble.

We have been gambling at the trade table for the last 20 years,

Like the idea, and would be stoked. I reckon Gysberts will be a good player. I don't think Melbourne would be too keen though.

Not sure if this is right, i've had a traditional reco using the hamstring tendon. I was told by the surgeon that they cut a nick in the side of the tendon and literally rip a strip off the side of the tendon. And that becomes the weak spot in the hammy.

You are correct, weakening is probably a better word than shortening.

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Gysberts disposal is such that we wont touch him, end of story.
