Pick 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Trading post to get 3 spots higher in the draft sounds silly to me. Especially when we can prob get the same player at 9 as at 6.
Is 3 spots higher gonna get the Tyson deal done. All seems a bit of a waste really. Same same

3 Spots in the draft could be the difference between landing Joel Selwood, or Andres Everitt. If we made that trade (Which I give no chance of happening) it would be borderline theft. The dogs will not do it. We'd be lucky to get pick 60 for him IMO.

The idea isn't to keep pick 6 for ourselves, and I do agree that it wouldn't land us Tyson, but it may get us 12 and 14 if GWS have to watch their list numbers. 6 for 12+14 seems more reasonable than 9 for 12+14.

I think people underrate Post's currency. He has some really good attributes, wouldn't surprise me if a few clubs were into him for the right price. Just a matter of whether the price is right for the Dogs.

Any reason Sam Colquhoun isn't talked about for pick 9.

Having a look through the Champ matches & the kids almost a Hamish Hartlett clone.

Smashed the carnival - SA' best. AA. 28 touches a match. & has knocked up getting it for Central Districts two's afterwards.

One of the best kicking actions you will ever see. Poetry. Jack & Co would be locking there lips with him running at them.

Is it because he plays mid/back & is possibly a bit like an upgraded Ellis in role or question marks on winning his own ball?

Looks a player to leysy. Big time.

Tell you what the more leysy looks the standard of footy & player available, this year is miles ahead of last when we had guys like Bunting, Haynes, Tomlinson, Sumner etc taken top 10. All big risks to make it, even then. This years top 12-15 look classes above.

Leysy's not scared to pot an early pick if he see's something he queries, but most look good instinctive footballers.

Lovely footballer to watch but the question is whether he has the tools to become a regular midfielder, well suited to a sweeping role in defence but might be found out in one on one contests (although I hear he hasn't missed a beat in the SANFL). Probably not what we're looking for at this stage, with Houli, Batchelor and Ellis all capable in the rebounding role. I'm guessing he'll be snapped up in the 10-20 range, possibly as high as pick 11.

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Colquhoun reminds me of a tougher version of Gibbs, from what limited footage I've seen of him.

Would probably be a reach at 9, better prospects IMO.

I have wondered the same thing with Colquhoun, have already mentioned in another thread that I think he will be one of the best from this draft.

Lovely user of the ball that makes good decisions & gets out of trouble very well, will be a top line mid in 4 years time .

;)

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

would rather a bonifide mid with our first pick than Colquoun

Great player but 9 is too early for him and we do have a few like him.

Gus, you may have stated this before but what do you think of Macrae?

If it goes

1 Whitfield
2 Toumpas
3 Grundy
4 Wines
5 O Rourke
6 Mayes
7 ???

Who would you be most keen on at 8 (keeping in mind Macrae may go at 7)?

?

Macrae isn't my type of footballer but he is very talented. Plays a little too outside but I can see why he is on the radar

188.9cm tall. Running times 5mtrs 1.02 94% 10mtrs 1.69 93% 20mtrs 2.95 76% Agility 8.40 80% and Beep test 12 - 1
While his running is excellent he isn't a great jumper and was below average in that area.

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Cheers Gus. Who are you most keen on that is a realistic chance to be around at 9?

Interesting. He'll be one around our mark for 9 that could be available you'd think.

How did Stringer test if you have it handy Gustof?

The players I like probably won't be players we are considering.
Simpson, Vlastuin and Plowman would be there abouts.

He didn't do a lot of tests

5m 1.08 62% 10m 1.78 60% 20m 3.05 31% 3km 11:39 25% and measured in at 190.5cm

Cheers mate

There is another player I really like and I don't think he's been mentioned as a top 20 pick. I'll share that name a bit later.
It's a shame we don't have another 2nd round pick

You answered it Greasy Trays. Think the back flank will suit him. We are just about full up for what we ned back there. Not unlike Chris Newman or Heath Scotland.

Would take him in the second round. At nine we can get a more damaging player.

Suprised at the Gus. Think he has that unique thing that really good players have. Time with the ball. Never rushed.

He is very talented but his style isn't necessarily what I enjoy. I think he will cop closer attention than he did in the TAC.

If he is in the Richmond midfield, did you think he would be sat on? I think he fits a need with us.

Would you prefer Sam Mayes in that role?

Re: Pic 9 ND 2012 – Who should we pick?

Colquhoun will go first round. But don't want at 9. Quite a few I'd take before him at 9.
