Pick 72: Ryan Garthwaite

Turtle was really good tonight but he didn’t beat much. Hogan looked like he was on the sauce the night before.

Did anyone notice the 'interesting' kicking style?

He puts his head well over - and looks to keep it low (very carefully)

Any background?

Had it since he joined us
Probably had it all his life

His dad a bit similar in style. Was a good bush footballer up in the Dandenongs I’m told.

Would like to see him get a month at least and give us a bit of stability down back with rance out. Important that we develop another defender and he showed great sihns today

Anyone else notice he covered the most distance @16.7k. Gotta be a world record for a tortise over a couple of hours ;D

A clever player who has very good composure, especially for someone who has played a handful of games.

A bit Phil Krakouer style. Has always had that kicking style and from what I've seen has been pretty efficient. I guess it could cause trouble if having to kick quickly but overall I've found him pretty reliable.

I have heard that he kicked over 100 goals as an u/16 junior playing full forward.

Despite his kicking style he can kick straight.

Rock solid. Didn't put a foot wrong.

Adequate stopper who can play AFL at the drop of a hat.

IN just a few games they've sent him to Hawkins and Hogan, so they have some faith in him.

Forget earlier this year; he'd only played two VFL halves and was well short of a gallop.

Hopefully he stays in. If a backman has to go out for Vlaustin return I reckon it should be Broad.

I noticed after one goal kicked against him he looked down st his strapped wrist and appeared to be reading something (I presume something inspirational or notes that he’d written there). Wonder what it was.
