Pick 72: Ryan Garthwaite

Speed wasn't the answer Zips we needed a KPD who would stay with their man and not sponge off.

Garthwaite would do that.
Yep Naughton needs body not speed. If he wants to take a mark on the wing good luck.

Garth wouldn't have got a centre clearance, which is where we lost it IMO.

We only had 4 less inside 50s. 9 contested marks and 5 goals went a long away to popping our balloon. Didn't have a swag of options to increase our midfield capacity but an obvious choice to thwart Naughton s influence somewhat. 6 points in it at start of last quarter, doesn't take much to change the momentum.

So many times no body on him or block whatsoever giving him a free jump at the ball. Was very much like Cox in the final last year.

The gws game was horrible for him - really didn’t have a match up. Cameron far too quick for him. Garthwaite has to play on the bigger slower types - body on body.

With Tabener, Hogan, Lobb, McCarthy... he has to play this week

Yep, Freo are not going to be beaten by a small backline, we need some more height down back especially this week.

If McCarthy plays then that’s his man otherwise the others are too tall/quick/agile for him...

How is our other backman in waiting Ben Miller coming along? Has he got more speed and smarts in him?
Much more speed than Garth or Astbury. Coming along and if you can believe it I reckon he has grown a few cm and is certainly getting bigger in the upper body. Maybe later.

Looked great when given an opportunity last year when he was fit ,

Plays from now on
