Interesting, that three goals is the record for goals on debut with the tigers and he shares it with two current players who also aren't playing forward in the AFL side, Short and Lloyd. FWIW it puts them equal 13th all time.tonemaster said:Astbury kicked three goals on debut: http://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2010/111420100418.html
That's something Griffiths has only done three times in his entire career.
And Elton has never done at all.

But doubt Astbury can play forward either - not much evidence of that and he is possibly slower than Caddy.
there was an article on Garthwaite at some point where it was pointed out he was originally a forward. I suspect given we had no key forwards apart from Jack in the AFL team they wanted to have a look at him. That of course is a role of the vfl team and is perfectly understandable given our number one priority with the vfl team is to develop AFL players. Port Melbourne have a different aim as a stand alone team.BrisTiger24 said:I watched the VFL game tonight. In the 2nd qtr Macrae swapped Moore and Garthwaite around. Garthwaite played forward. Both players played better in their original spots and they were returned there after half time.
Was disappointed with Garthwaite forward but they were asking him to lead up to the wings to mark. Wish they would have used him deeper to clunk marks in fwd 50

Brodders17 said:i assume they played him as a lead up forward cos we dont one. we dont have a spot for a tall forward inside 50, unless we switch Jack up the ground again, and stop using Dusty deep.
i would like to see Garthwaite allowed to continue developing as a defender in the VFL, rather than throwing a skinny 18yo around trying to plug holes.

Seems Clarko had seen enough after 3 games, shame we gave him 119 of them.
Long way back for TV methinks. Be lucky to get pick 100 for him now.

Missed opportunity
