Pick 72: Ryan Garthwaite

Judging from the snippets of video this kid seems a knockabout bush kid with a good sense of humour and a great desire to learn. What we will get is a competitive kid who will leave no stone unturned.

Too early to call him the Ghost ?

Might have to be Gas. His kicking style fits perfectly, all he has to do now is survive the pre season hype n start playing senior games.

David Cloke was another with the same kicking style; looks awkward but more effective than it looks.

Doubt he'd ever have the arse to match Clokey. Must have just about been Leysy's all time favourite player ever.

Where's Garthwaite at, at the moment?

Havent heard his name mentioned anywhere

I'm pretty sure he was at the ground, saw him in the huddle, but didn't play. He and other VFL front liners were given a rest prior to the first real game.

Watching him against the Northern Blues he reminded me of Dustin Fletcher, i hope he is half as good and plays half as many games.

I thought he had a good game of VFL today. Contested well and controlled his zone when the oppo were bringing the ball back. Good signs. Kicking mechanical as has been reported elsewhere.

I'm a fan. Like the way he goes about hid footy. Reads the game pretty well and doesn't often seem fazed when the pressure is on.

He was. I don't think he lost a contest all day.

Brilliant! when drafted that's what had been reported, he was a contested defending beast that hated losing a contest..

How do you think he will deal with the increase in speed in the seniors when he gets his chance?

Backs his judgement and has the confidence to leave his man, seems to a have a good football brain.
