Pick 63, 2017 Ben Miller - Welcome to Tigerland.

I'm about ready to call time on him. Absolutely has the ability but just lacks the grunt. He could find it. But I haven't seen any signs that he will. Plays like he's 6 inches shorter. As someone once said, "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane". Like he doesn't understand that he can bust packs and impose himself on the game. His only use to us is as a dominant forward who can pinch hit in the ruck. His ruck work has shown improvement, but not his forward craft.

With 1 minute and 15 seconds to go last weekend he flew from behind and punched the ball forward, preventing a certain Hawthorn mark in the goal square.
Showed urgency and determination.
Must show more

i believe either Miller or Ryan will be in the side for the remaining year. They will try to take up Lynch's spot. They could also provide another avenue to Ruck and around the ground options, whilst Nank & Soldo share the ruck and sometime forward line. A great opportunity exists.

Yeah, he normally does 2 or 3 things a game that are OK. Problem is the other 119 minutes.

I'm always amused by the surprise look he has in his face when does something useful- he looks as shocked as the rest of us!

He spent the entire post Hawks game time in the room babysitting his toddler.
This is admirable parental devotion but there is also a time and place for team.
I suspect, but don't know, that Ben is not the most competitive human in the world and is quite the introvert.
He's a less insular footballer than 12m ago but it feels like he is inching his way towards his potential output rather than striding purposefully towards it.
AFL is a tough game and I'm yet to be convinced he has the appetite to make a real go of it.

Time for some of you to get off his back.
He is showing more and more of what he has to offer.
He is still growing in stature both physically and mentally.
Deserves more time and will get it.

Discussing who will make it, and who won't is part of normal footy chat. I don't see anyone being unkind or abusive here. Ben has potential, but to make it as an AFL forward you need to be a little bit rock star. It requires arrogance, really. You have to be prepared to steamroll your path to the ball and demand it from your mids, as well as put some hurt on the defenders trying to stop you. I've never seen a successful, timid, forward. I've seen quiet, introverted forwards. Fraser Gehrig springs to mind. But his attack on the ball was anything but timid.

Ben has had a few good moments in each game the last few weeks. As others are saying he needs to add more physicality to his game and believe in himself more.
Has got good AFL attributes, the mark and goal in the pocket against the Hawks confirms that, believe Ben, believe.

He sure is frustrating. Took a mark a few weeks ago where he basically out-muscled his opponent so he could get a clear grab. You see this and you just wonder where that is most of the time. He can do it, and I'm sure that is the message he is being given, but just doesn't play to his strengths most of the time.

Maybe it will click, maybe not. We'll see, but the frustration wouldn't be there unless we could see the occasional look at what he is capable of.

I thought he has been performing well. Can play ruck forward or back. Invaluable asset to have in an era with basically 23 in a team.

Yup. Has the tools. It's the attitude that is missing. Took a beautiful mark on the lead very early on, maybe his 1st senior game. I thought, "we've got one here". Gave me the same feeling as seeing Young look so settled in the backline. My assessment of Ben is born of an urgency I feel brought on by watching Jack slowly fade and Lynch's foot issue that could be terminal to his footy prospects. We need new forward stocks. Miller has shown glimpses. Cumberland looks like a project that may or may not come off. Ryan is a ruck by nature. Could make a forward in time, but it will take years to put meat on those lanky bones.

He's being played out of position and out of necessity. If he will make it as a long term player it will be as a key defender which we don't really need. May end up being a back up KPD if anything or 3rd KPD IMO.

Miller almost 24 has only played 24 games. He can fill in in multiple positions. Right now I would be keeping him as the utility man. In these days of salary cap restrictions you need a few spares on low contract $ so you can pay the stars.

And there is the small chance he may actually continue to improve

That’s the moneyball call. For sustained success you need competent 24-30 players unless you get a crazy good injury free run and yep some of those 24-30s turn into 5-15s as it looks like Ross is doing and broad did in the past.

Continues to be arguably the luckiest player in the AFL. Statistically, he’s worse in nearly every category this year compared to last except goals (0.5 vs 0.3) and hitouts (9.2 vs 4.3). Has to date, played one good game from 24 attempts in nearly six seasons on the list. And he still has a year to go on his current contract!

Remember, if you’re a small you get sixty seconds to prove you can play and if you’re a tall, they give you six years to prove you can’t.

I think @TigerPort nailed it as to why he's stayed on so long. Can fill all key positions somewhat competantly at possibly the lowest price and presumably has upside given his athletic profile & skillset/hasn't played many afl games despite his age.

I have barracked for Ben for a few seasons now and I just want him to succeed. If only Emma Murray can break into the mindset of Ben and get his self confidence up to speed, he will be the complete footballer.

Once Nank comes in I hope Miller never again pulls on an AFL tigers jumper
Built like Tarzan players like a 50yo Karen

I actually thought his effort and intent were there today more than usual- he appeared to attack the ball, and man with more speed.
But ultimately he just didn't do much.
