Pick 63, 2017 Ben Miller - Welcome to Tigerland.

Naicos, Daicos, Sidebum, Pendles, DeGooey, Hill, Moore etc etc

Its not like Collingwood had a shortage of good users of the ball.
Tom Mitchell played 6 games (his absence forced Daicos to play more inside, impacting on his effectiveness a bit IMO)
DeGoey played 13 games and was not right for much of the year
McStay played 5 games
Mihocek played 11 games
Elliott played 15 games
Cox played 16 games

They had no key forward. Howe was forced forward. Frampton/Kruger played key forward - may as well have Kosi.

Murphy was an important component, guys like Moore/Quaynor had lesser years in his absence.

Will they have better luck with injury next year?

We had plenty of good users of the ball- the skills and talent of our triple premiership team are still criminally under rated- but at times we chose to move the ball forward any way we could, rather than relying on pin point ball use.

As Leysy so insightfully points out, that style still holds up in finals.

Injuries destroyed them. No team can compete when missing too many key players. If they had their full list for most of the year they are Top 4. Easily.

We make the 8 if we have a full list to choose from for most of the year.

Injuries are the single most critical factor in success.
Lots of injuries because they're super old. Just an average team that knows how to win close ones. Their premiership win was a miracle. Last year they won 12 games by 13 points or less, all 3 finals by less than a goal. Even this year 6 of their 12 wins by a goal or less. They have list issues. Next year is going to be fun to watch with all their oldies continuing and a year older.

Mitchell 31yo,. MIhocek 31, Elliott 32, Cox 33, McStay 29, DeGoey 28. Old sides get more injuries. And they're all staying on.

The point was, that when the stakes and pace goes up in big finals, outside Geelong in 22 (who got a charmed run through) clinical football hasn't got it done.

Even Geelong put more dare in their game.

Until we see otherwise It's atill the teams that can play Chaos football and bring the most pressure that have won out.
We played chaos cause we were better without the ball then with it at our prime, we would cause turnovers in our front half like no one before us.

Reckon the pIes slice you open with footskills more than we did, it's super quick but not chaos. We are not miles apart, I accept your point. To a point.

Miller is a big man, a big unit, a co ordinated player for his size, has decent skills,

But he has hardly any physical presence. You dont notice him the way you should notice him.

He needs mongrel in him, he needs to go at the footy and the contested pack at the footy mot waiting for ther ball to come to him.

Too many Tigers players wait for the footy weay too many reactive players no t enough pro active players.

Pro Active players and a pro active game plan brought the RFC 3 flags,.

Needs to up his presence and go harder at the footy.
So what you're saying then is that, he, along with some of our other backs, are the Anti-Rance!
Easily fixed - why didn't we get that all-time great of the club back down to help out with training and coaching these guys up to bring them up much closer to Rance-style?
Oh wait. Good opportunity when his school business fell over but ... apparently grabbed by Dimma at GCS.
Another crappy lack of initiative or unwillingness to open the purse strings (being the rich club - allegedly - that doesn't believe in decisive football dept expenditure; looks like Burge did very well at Dorks too!) in Benny's asleep-at-the-wheel retirement year.
## Gone fishing to Tassie.

Edited for corrections/improvements.

Would have been hard for Benny to recruit Alex this year as he joined the Suns in November 2023.

Whenever! My operative word is INITIATIVE. You can quibble over times and dates. My point remains: Rance is/at least was, one of ours; one of our greatest champions.
Surely RFC should be keeping in touch with these ex greats; getting them along to games at times, club events, mentoring players, taking specialist training sessions if possible. Do I have to draw a map?

Why is Cotch up assisting at the Lions? Any approaches to Grigg once he was exiting the Moggies?
I think I'm pleased to get Caracella back; but it's only now as Benny departs. Just hope he's not a 'yesterday's man who is past his use-by, compared to a far more recently retired quality player. Not coming from a club with programs of great recent success!!

But even this is counter-balanced by the departure of Lambert who exactly fits my description of the kind of coaching expertise/input we most likely need now. Maybe he simply wants a change of career from footy, but if he wants out from being demoralised or disillusioned by the very underwhelming performance of the club in '24, it's further cause for concern. I don't know.

I see precious few positives for this 'collapse' year. Maybe a couple of green shoots in the youngsters, but even then, when was the last time we had a RS nomination?

Rance is living on the Gold Coast. I doubt he did commute to Punt Rd a could of times a week.
So perhaps not "easily fixed".

But carry on.

Still acting the smartars? You're as funny as Baker, DRioli, Bolton, Lambert and whoever else is walking out of PRO ... or wants to. Try reading and comprehending my post first. Especially, look up the definition of that key word - INITIATIVE. It means like beating opponents/competition to the punch, not behaving like a sitting duck or a complacent irrelevancy i.e. were we in touch with Rance early on, after his business faltered? Before he decided to go GC? Clearly Dimma and GCS were! No approach to Cotch? There's a heap of other recent Tiger greats that may be in that category too, of being able to help.

You're another pedant like the Antman, stuck on the little picture but thinking that makes you look clever. It's a broader comment on the whole 'rapidly back to the doldrums years' again, while Benny tells us, "No worries! It's all good. Everything about the club is going just great, strong position ... " as he waltzes off to new and green $$$ pastures for the AFL's new lovechild, after pocketing a very handsome return from RFC in '24, leaving us back at year zero. But you must love a good wooden spoon.

Meanwhile, our nemesis down the Surf Coast that posters on here have saying will fall off the cliff for 10 years, compete for another flag (doesn't matter that I don't think they'll win it. But they're not 18th!) They're in contention ... as usual. And the media vultures have dissected our increasingly carrion carcass all year. Sure you have loved all this.

No doubt a nuffie like you wants to rationalise 2024 as just a 'transitional' year for the club and ... quick bounceback ... less injuries we'd contend ... yibbida yibbida. Don't let the facts, the hard evidence get in the way of a good delusion, or your superior pedantry.
Maybe our struggling young backmen needed someone like Rance down there (does this debacle in '24 also confirm Leppa was far better line coach that Rutten?)
But carry on reveling in your pedantics. Reckon that was likely one of Nero's traits too. Maybe see if the club needs someone of your 'vision' to go down and switch the lights off soon too.

Nah. You wanted to have a crack at Benny, couldn't think of anything legitimate, and cane up with a ridiculous retrospective action that wasn't actually possible even with foresight of what would happen this season.

Bizarre.

Nah, Leon's got the inside word. He knows Gale has been sitting on his arse smoking cigars all year doing SFA, when he should have been trying to recruit guys who live interstate for family reasons to part time assistant roles.

Pretty SOFT of Benny to CAP off his last year i must say. ;)

I thought this posting link was for Ben Miller comments but it seems it has been taken over with rants about the Hawks and others playing list, rants about old players plying their coaching attributes elsewhere or people leaving the club. We have to move on as we can't change the past but we can mould our future.
Surely it is better to post these comments on the relevant post links where they can be best suited.
