Pick 63, 2017 Ben Miller - Welcome to Tigerland.

Gawn is tough to bash into. Balta tried. Soldo tried. Soldo bashed into him a lot and he ain't no midget. A bit laughable to think Ben Miller was going to physically hurt Gawn. Miller is more the prancing, non-contact Tyrone Vickery type.

Gawn is the elite ruck of the comp. Soldo was huge in the first half but Gawn is a machine. Amazing runner & player for his size.
No doubt. But he was the only option to support a flagging Soldo. His ruck work is the one area where he shows improvement. He had to be used in that role to justify his selection IMO. He doesn't currently provide anything up forward. He is excellent below his knees, and his reflexes and hands are good. He plays like a midfielder. We don't need that from him. We need him to lead at the ball and take marks.

I am now a fan. Of Miller’s endeavour. Of his understanding of the moment. Of his commitment to it. Some times.

Truly an admirer.

He gets no air. Has less aerial game than Gerald. But Miller is urgent once in a while.

23yo now? Not a tall forward, not a tall back, not a ruck.

Just once I’d go to the VFA to watch Miller teach his inferiors a lesson. But after six or ten years is not yet at AFL level.

I completely misjudged Jack early in his career. Plenty of keen-eyed analysts on here could clearly see something I couldn't. So I try to temper my opinions...sometimes. I think Ben has an odd mix of talents. He can be surprisingly effective in the ruck. Has the ability to assess the play in tight traffic, and the hands, and foot skills, to use it like a bloke half his size. But that isn't the description of any particular position, other than full forward. But that requires a certain je nais se quois, a magnetism to draw the ball to you. Just enough arrogance to bully full backs and crash packs. Could he be an unlikely 6'6" midfielder? I doubt it, he has some great skills but that requires pace, too. A mobile, attacking ruck? He's effective in spurts but not enough to hold down that spot. A dashing centre half-back? Dashing, he isn't? I can't find a spot for him. Maybe Volleyball's his go?

Other then the occasional highlight , ads zero and other teams no it , plays like a witches hat at training, defender stands beside itand then attacks of it, absolute waste of game time that Ryan , Biggy or even Bradtke could be getting and a waste of a list spot .

Mr B goes whack! I can’t recall you being so harsh on a Tiger player before.

Feel a bit for Ben .. a solid defender that has been moved around as as a stop gap forward ruck etc due to our obession for recruiting half back flankers insead of tall forwards
I reckon he could of kicked a bag against the Hawks just staying forward ,but he had to also pinch hit in the ruck.
I thought they may have brought Ryan in against the Demons ,to rotate with Soldo, and left Miller forward.

I’d have to say this is the worst forward line we’ve had and I hate the makeshift players we are using when we have kids who are forwards

Well said and factually accurate except for the part about playing Biggie. He’s another 6’6’ so called tall with zero physical presence.

Again, it’s not the fact Miller can’t cut it that bothers me. It’s the fact it was obvious years ago and yet he remains on the list. It’s poor list management, plain and simple.

I thought we may have a player in Biggie , may just lack the “want” if persist over Miller though

Would prefer Biggie, and his listed 197cm frame, gets a gig ahead of Miller, as a Ruck/ Forward.

Would be hard to have less impact.

Was a witches hat on Sunday. Can't possibly be picked this week. We actually had Pickett rucking against Gawn with Miller in the forward line he was so poor in the ruck, and did nothing around the ground either. Was just a surprise he wasn;t subbed out earlier.

We’re naming 22 players and trying to fit them in to the team
We should be looking at who’s the best fit for a position and selecting the best player available

If Biggy isn't getting picked ahead of Miller, it says more about where Biggy's not at, than where Miller is.

I've stood up for this guy, always needed additional years to catch up on his lack of junior development. We needed to
give him that opportunity. But his graph isn't trending up anymore, it's plateaued. Perhaps even starting to dip.

We're locked in for next year already, so he ain't going to go. Not putting his hand up for any position on the ground,
despite the occassional flash of competence.

What on earth do we do with Miller. Disappointed with his last VFL game. Is he purely a back up CHB or FB and that's it. He just doesn't do enough for other positions. At least he will allow Balta to be free for positional switches. He did quite well in the back line at VFL level from games I saw. With Gibcus hopefully back next year I fear miller is just a waste of a reasonably mobile big

Backline is is his last and only hope.

Contracted for next year (Biggie is an unrestricted free agent this year so we might lose him).

The gap between his best and worst is still far too great.
Agree they need to settle him in one position but think Young has his position well and truely sown up.

Yeah, I was thinking more of a third or fourth tall role, replacing Grimes. He's 198cm but very quick and agile. More a small than a tall. Excellent user, good decision maker.

I have always had hope for him and thought he has good skills - when he uses them. Don't argue is right with too much gap between best and worst. I just hope he is not another bust - too many busts recently

It's his only hope. Even with Grimes and Biggie gone he's backup for Balta, Young and Gibcus. And Bauer may even end up there if he can't quite cut it as a forward.
