Pick 12 discussion.

Come on down Ellis

I suspect you may be right, but only if Weller, Duggan and Wright are gone.

I reaaaaally want Weller. Hoping it unfolds like this:

1. Petracca
2. Brayshaw
3. McCartin
4. Pickett
5. Laverde
6. Goddard
7. Lever
8. Duggan
9. Moore
10. Wright
11. De Goey
12. Weller > Cockatoo > Ellis

I think that top 4 is pretty set in stone. If Langford goes to the Pies instead of Laverde (which frankly I can't see happening) then I think it'd go

5. Langford
6. Goddard
7. Lever
8. Laverde
9. Moore
10. Wright
11. De Goey
12. Duggan > Weller > Cockatoo > Ellis

Should end up with either Duggan or Weller I reckon, either of which is a good result.

When do we know who gets invited up to Qld for the draft ? It's normally the top 10 plus 2 emergencies right ?

Monday next week the invites are likely to go out. Expecting more than 2 emergencies this year. Could be 6 or 7 on the plane

That's how I see it unfolding too, although I suspect West Coast will take Cocky.

Quite possibly, which would leave De Goey on the table for us and make things even more interesting. He'd surely be of interest.

Interesting to here that Brett Anderson said on SEN last night that the top end talent isn't there in this draft. He mentioned that anyone from Boyd down to Koladjasni (sp?) would go number one this year if they were in the 2014 draft. Conversely, where the talent thinned out from 20 onwards last year, that doesn't happen until 60 this year.

That to me says we'll get a bunch of complimentary type players in this years draft, but no one who is going to be a match winning star, with our picks. I'm OK with that, but kinda makes 120+ pages of discussion seem a bit over the top.

We're hungry fans at RFC aren't we?

I don't agree with some of these assessments, 2005 was meant to be one one of the worst on record yet it produced a large number of A grade talents. The difference this year is some of the first rounders have various question marks, but that doesn't mean they will be inferior to last year's crop.

Cockatoo & Lever are both outstanding talents but have been injured for the year, both could quite easily go on to be stars.

Laverde has just as many tricks as Billings, slightly different playing styles but it's basically a Stevie Johnson versus Nathan Brown argument.

KK went at 5, I think Lever has him covered easily, it wouldn't surprise me to see McGuinness emulate KK's feats and he's a late rookie pick.

Kelly looks quality but he's very outside, I would take Brayshaw over him 99 times out of 100.

Aish versus Weller, very similar types but Lachie is much quicker, perhaps doesn't have the senior exposure so doesn't come with the same warranty.

Boyd was the standout last year and there's no comparable players, maybe that's why people are talking about the draft being light for top end talent. Petracca has more question marks than your average pick 1, in fact I would opt for Brayshaw if I were St Kilda, but beyond that the players are similarly matched.

Bonti has been a revelation but who's to say we won't have another freak emerge from the pack, way too early to be writing off this year's top dozen or so.

Goddard seems like the real wildcard, doesnt he. could go anywhere from about 5 to 25.

I quite like him personally but I note Blondy has him at 23

12 Tiges what's left after the Suns pick from Laverde, DeGoey, Weller, Duggan, Durdin, Ahern, Ellis
Think you've pretty much nailed it there Redan, apart from perhaps the top three or four kids listed there really doesn't seem to be anything much between the value or prospects of the rest of these selections. Media experts seem to be having as many possible drafting scenarios as the on line punters.
Maybe there's not enough difference between pick four to eighteen for anyone picking from this grouping to be disappointed in the end result.
Bit like a box of Smarties or MnM's, lots of shiny bright colours but they're all pretty much exactly the same.

I watched Goddard very closely against Collingwood reserves and he's a very good player, in fact his appeal lies in the fact he comes with very little risk. His overhead game is strong, his bodywork and strength makes him a very difficult match-up and he can play forward. The reason he's polarising the judges is forseeable upside, he's the Talia of this year's crop, he'll have a ten year career but he won't necessarily be an eye-catcher. Wright, Lever & Durdin all have significantly higher ceilings but come with greater risk, I think a club like GWS will plump for Goddard because they want some sense of surety. With 3 picks in the top 10 I think they can afford to do this.

Yeah GWS have put a lot of work into him. I'm reasonably sure he'll go at 6 or 7. What I like most about Goddard is his intensity, he really attacks the footy (sometimes overcommits) and consistently puts in 2nd and 3rd efforts. He'll be a good player I reckon.

Yeah, I woldnt mind if we picked him up actually. He could be a bit like his namesake actually - looks quite versatile. Dunno what his cardio is like - did he do well at the combine?

Kinda reminds me of my young bloke.

I have heard that Ahern and Wright have been Invited to the draft day up in Queensland.
