Pick 12 discussion.

At state level they both averaged 2 clearances a match, not outstanding numbers but Weller also performed strongly at VFL level and won his fair share of contested ball. As far as the contested possession ratio is concerned Ellis produced the following numbers, 17/5, 21/8, 13/6, 12/3, 5/4.

Weller's stats were 15/6, 25/11 & 14/5.

Given that Weller is a division 2 player there must be some allowance for the quality of the opposition however this is balanced out by Ellis's poor showing against the eventual champions SA. In the first match he had 13 touches at 38% efficiency & only managed 5 disposals in the final.
Fair enough, I'm basing judgement purely on the limited vision I've seen. Weller certainly looks a good prospect.

Reading today's article by Emma Quayle in the Age i don't understand why so many people have a set against Ellis. His coach rates him higher than Ahern and Laverde and his has been best afield in 4 Grand Finals. Given we have a tendency to go to water in big games having someone who has a track record of dealing with the pressure of big games may not be a bad thing.

It certainly wouldn't be the end of the world if does end up at tigerland

I can't find that article. Can I trouble you for a link?

For the simple reason that he is completely outside, most of these types fall in the second round. I'm expecting Garlett to go somewhere around the pick 20 mark.
As I've learnt over the years Bully, highlights packages are very similar to buying a near new used car. As you have said we need some outside speed an I just wonder with all the all round solid footballers we have recruited if our midfield could be strengthen by adding a pure outside weapon....think it's irrelevent anyway if as you say his going around 20 an I don't believe we have been linked to him

Recruiters seem to put a big emphasis on character, perhaps he doesn't add too much in this regard. They think this quality is important for standing up when the chips are down, perhaps Garlett might be a wee bit of a downhill skiier. I'm totally guessing. I agree I think he looks like he has some outstanding football ability, I was more impressed with his highlight package than Pickett or Cockatoo.
No doubt an no doubt there right to do so.....Yep I just liked how clean he was, ball handling was outstanding, kid like him should be an outside weapon, didn't watch the top kids as didn't see any point asking for a motorbike when I know I'm only getting a bmx of santa ;) however most of the kids I watched just looked solid core players without a lot of X to me, maybe that's why Garlett caught my eye

That was when Ellis developed his stress fracture, not really fair to pull in those numbers as evidence.

And one by Emma Quayle on Cocky just for good measure

I suspect Weller could be used in that role, at least early on in his career.

I actually really like the sound of Eliis.

He does a lot right. And he makes it look easy. Really picks a bad option with the ball. Doesn't try and do anything fancy unless it's his only choice. Runs from contest to contest and doesn't make runs to areas that he can't get he ball in. Multiple touches in a chain player. Wouldn't say he is class. I think the best word is neat.

I agree with all that but I will add that Ellis' kicking efficiency was running at 49% at TAC level, his decision making is still far from perfect. Against SA he was also shown up, this has remained a red flag for me and drops him down the order.

Weller's decision making is top notch, I have seen him lifted off the ground & bear hugged, yet he still hung on long enough for a receiver to make some space and collect the handball. When he puts on 10kg this type of IQ will become more pronounced, I don't think we've seen his best, far from it.

That one game is one game. Same as Cocky's game is one game. Ellis is a ultra neat footballer who is good with the ball in hand.

As I have qualified before I don't see these guys in action and only go by what I read and highlight reels etc so this may have no basis in fact but here goes...
Ellis just seems like a mark go back kick type player. None of his highlight reels seem to show any run and carry stuff which is exactly what we need. Prefer others.

I like him Bully, I really want to get him or Lukas Webb with one of our picks.

Just on Webb he has moved his 3km from 11min20sec to 10.50 & improved his beep from 13.1 to 14.8. And a 8.38 agility.

At 186cm, I would be finding a way to get this lad on the list. I'm a huge wrap for him. Class. Time. Outstanding by foot.

Yes he's very neat for the most part, he also had some polished performances against VC & WA, but there's also a big gap between his best & worst. If he irons out these inconsistencies then he will become a more complete footballer.

Just running through his numbers at TAC level he had a few games where the efficiency was in the red.

vs Chargers 14 kicks, 9 ineffective
vs Stingrays 17 kicks, 11 ineffective
vs Pioneers 12 kicks, 8 ineffective
vs Stingrays 5 kicks, 4 ineffective

He only played 8 games so half were operating at a KE of roughly 33%. I think he's technically a very good disposer of the ball, he just needs to be more consistent.

That paragraphed could be used after pick 12 on any boy selected. I agree with it on Ellis too.

Thoughts on Webb? I'm huge on him.

Yes, I like Webb a lot, I suspect he would have been very much in the frame for Vic Country's MVP, but was eventually pipped by Lonie. Both these guys are on our radar, we will almost certainly take one with 52 if available.

Perfect size to eventually become a mid. I'd take Webb over Lonie by a long way. I'd almost take Webb at 33.

Webb's scope is much higher, and yes I would take him ahead of Lonie, although my instincts tell me it will only be Lonie available at 52. If we want him then it has to be 33, that means we would have to weigh up missing out on a true inside mid like Gore or Miller, I'm favouring the inside mid at this stage.
