Pick 12 discussion.

Why the hell does FJ have to think he's so smart that he picks a player no other club has really talked about as a top 20 prospect. He did it with conca a player out of the blue. Now again with Ellis.
Ellis is workman like not a genuine star, and will add nothing new or dynamic to our team.
Why is he even being considered at 12. Geezzzz

Ellis has been heavily linked to North's pick 16.

Is this the same SOURCE that told you Taylor Hunt was playing games and not coming to tigerland?

Nope its source that told me about trengove source that told me about matty knights his been wrong before his not perfect like everyone else here but his adement

Snuck a peak at a few " highlight" packages yesterday...saw lots to f good solid potential B graders IMHO, one that caught my eye with exceptional clean one touch hands was Garlett, seemed very good of both feet an very nice exceleration an a very nice dose of composure for a speedster...just surprised he hasn't been talked up more

Recruiters seem to put a big emphasis on character, perhaps he doesn't add too much in this regard. They think this quality is important for standing up when the chips are down, perhaps Garlett might be a wee bit of a downhill skiier. I'm totally guessing. I agree I think he looks like he has some outstanding football ability, I was more impressed with his highlight package than Pickett or Cockatoo.

For the simple reason that he is completely outside, most of these types fall in the second round. I'm expecting Garlett to go somewhere around the pick 20 mark.

I will be absolutely gob smacked if Ellis is selected with #12, The only source that has him anywhere near #12 is CT

Please God NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Reading today's article by Emma Quayle in the Age i don't understand why so many people have a set against Ellis. His coach rates him higher than Ahern and Laverde and his has been best afield in 4 Grand Finals. Given we have a tendency to go to water in big games having someone who has a track record of dealing with the pressure of big games may not be a bad thing.

It certainly wouldn't be the end of the world if does end up at tigerland

I'm not against Ellis but pick 12 is a stretch, if we had stitched up the Trengove deal then I wouldn't have an issue with using pick 23, that seems roughly where he should be in the pecking order. At the moment our priority should be run and carry, Weller and Cockatoo are clearly the best candidates. Ellis is more your link up player who can effectively deliver in a chain of play, I'm sure he'll have a decent career but won't necessarily be a headline act.

Laverde is something special, he has a skill set to rival Steve Johnson, he is also a bit of a maverick in the way he plays so will need to knuckle down and play to instruction.

Ahern is also a big game player, in fact he has risen up the charts due to some outstanding performances in finals & at the u/18 carnival.

Ellis fired some blanks at state level and must be marked down as a result.

Again, no, the priority is picking the best available player according to our rankings.

Run & carry ability is a quality that effects my rankings & it should be a high priority with any professional recruiter. Weller comfortably rivals Ellis for kicking, inside capabilities & offensive weapons. His agility & speed is also vastly superior.

Agree.

Disagree that Weller rivals Ellis for inside capabilities but agree that they are both good kicks and are offensive threats. I agree Weller has superior ability/speed. Who is going to be the better footballer? I think it is pretty marginal, and certainly not a clear cut case. I'd be happy with either.

At state level they both averaged 2 clearances a match, not outstanding numbers but Weller also performed strongly at VFL level and won his fair share of contested ball. As far as the contested possession ratio is concerned Ellis produced the following numbers, 17/5, 21/8, 13/6, 12/3, 5/4.

Weller's stats were 15/6, 25/11 & 14/5.

Given that Weller is a division 2 player there must be some allowance for the quality of the opposition however this is balanced out by Ellis's poor showing against the eventual champions SA. In the first match he had 13 touches at 38% efficiency & only managed 5 disposals in the final.

Yep his skill level on both sides stood out for me. And his composure. I would love to have him at #12, the small forward is something we're screaming out for. But I guess as Bullus points out, these type of players are usually not picked so high. I'd be surprised if he doesn't go top 20.
