I'd like to know what his repeat sprint times were. That's a better indication of pace for mine.

Even first rounders aside, I'm racking my brain to think of one footballer he's drafted in the past 5 years that's genuinely quick. Edwards has been the only one I can recall who can run a sub 3secs, that's pretty damning in my opinion, particularly given Hawthorn & Port have been going hammer & tongs. If we pick Duggan then kiss it goodbye for another year, we'll be reaching for another Banfield.
Martin
Cotchin

That was a long time ago Smokey, even Edwards is a distant memory. All our recent draftees have been as slow as molasses.

I wouldnt classify them as slow. When comparing sprint times over 20m we are virtually splitting hairs. Martin and Cotchin recorded below 3.0sec times but I wouldnt classify them as quick. For me, speed is their ability to execute what they do with the ball once they receive it.

No doubt speed is crucial in modern footy an we defiantly need to add some, however how many players do we need with elite speed, most of our mids have good pace, other then probably Lids....best team in recent years for me is the Cats, players like Bartel, Selwood, Johnson, Kelly, Mackie, Chapman, Stokes are from lightning , at one point Wojo an Gazza were probably there only two elite speed players. Important to have speed in the 22 however I think it's more important to have class ...... Best player at 12 for me, however some speed added later in the draft is a must

Any chance us taking Nathan Drummond with our first round?

All the key indicators suggest if he is there he is a gun

More like pick 52

I recon he will go in the top 20:

Nathan Drummond
Born 19.1.1995, 181cm, 85kg

AFL biography: Tough, inside medium midfielder with elite speed/endurance combination. Has had excellent TAC Cup year after being injured in 2013. Playing as a 19-year-old he averaged 15 disposals, four marks and six tackles for Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Good leap and overhead mark for his size.

Lee Fraser, Murray Bushrangers: "Nathan was at school in Melbourne last year so he's basically missed out on the draft and come back with an AFL attitude. He's super professional. We challenged him early on in the year to work on his contested footy and he's gone into the centre square and won a lot of it for us. His defensive attitude has been outstanding. He has a 15 beep and a sub three second 20 metre sprint and he's starting to use those qualities in his game."

Dusty ran a 2.89, that's quick in anyone's language.

Right attitude, super quick, little scrappy with the ball. Third rounder onwards.

Two things to bear in mind with Drummond is firstly, he's an overager and has had an extra year of physical development. The second is he's prone to butchering the ball, both from a kicking & handball perspective.

Just to give you some indication here's a snapshot of his TAC season.

vs Gippsland Power (20 kicks, 14 ineffective)
vs Eastern Ranges (18 kicks, 9 ineffective)
vs Calder Cannons (18 kicks, 8 ineffective)
vs NSW (26 kicks, 13 ineffective, 13 handballs, 8 ineffective)
vs Eastern Ranges (18 kicks, 16 ineffective, 12 handballs, 6 ineffective)
vs Bendigo Pioneers (16 kicks, 5 ineffective, 13 handballs, 5 ineffective)

To put it bluntly, his disposal can be a real liability, sure he's fast but I'd be wanting better user of the ball for pick 33. If we reach with our second rounder it will be a poor strategy, particularly if Gore, Miller or Neal-Bullen are available.

They're amazingly bad ineffective statistics. No point being fast if you're going to cough it up to the opposition all the time.

He ran a 3sec flat 20 metres & a 14.5 beep, ironically this would be faster than FJ's last 5 picks, the closest being Ellis who ran a 3.04.

any idea what TV's 20mt time was? and beep?

They both averaged 4 tackles a match at the carnival, although to be fair Duggan had to contend with much better opposition. Against Collingwood reserves Weller put in a top performance all-round, to go with his 3 tackles, he also burnt off the opposition and delivered with precision. For an extra tackle or two I'd much rather grab the guy who can break the lines, I just can't see that with Duggan. Weller really addresses something we're crying out for, I also doubt we'll get another opportunity to grab a similar player down the order.
could we get an inside mid at 33 perhaps with Weller at 12? or Duggan at 12 and outside/speed with 33? which would be the better/more realistic way to go?
