Pick 12 discussion.

With Arnot being delisted i get the impression that Peter Wright would be our first pick followed by 4 midfielders.

I would have thought we were flush for talls. Delisting a midfielder then replacing him with a tall seems a little against the whole "targeting speed and midfielders" theme to this draft

Unless the best player available at 12 is a tall. If he's a standout like some way, you'd want to take him to upgrade your posse of talls and potentially use one for a trade down the track. Talls always command more than mids

Exactly, provided we pick Wright of course. If Rhys Stanley can get pick 21, then TV or Griff would be worth the same if not more.

Some clubs are just flat out dumb or have watched too many Moneyball or Draft Day movies. The reason why Wright is dropping down the order is because a few clubs think he is a ruckman and the current trend is for ruckman not to be taken in the top 10 picks. If he is there at 12 then we should take him.

Agree x 1000. Out of interest Gus, when was the last time you encountered a 200+cm player with such a fluid kicking action? For me it's Brad Ottens all those years ago, strangely his kicking went a bit haywire after becoming a ruckman.

moral of the story = if we get Wright keep him as a fwd/ruck & not the other way around :p

I am coming around to selecting Wright with #12 (slowly) But i still want Cockatoo as my choice

Bloody Frank better get cracking with the later picks though - He will certainly be under the pump to find Gems with #33 #52 #70

When you know nothing about any of the juniors this thread does your head in.
Pfft, just at the phantom drafts and regurgitate........ :)

Don't care about the picks very much this year.
It will probably be more or less what it's been for the last few years.
Just waiting for Jackson's retirement announcement after the draft. :happy

Reading between the lines on the AFL website our preferences are Duggan, Weller & Ellis in that order, but it does suggest we'll take Wright if available (which I doubt).

I like your confidence in regard to the Tigers taking Wright, I hope your prediction turns out to be true !

Indeed.
I think in the past Richmond on draft day have shown that when they have their heart set on a player, they don't have a coherent plan B when things go awry.
The classic was of course the total confusion Hawthorn caused us in 2004 with the Roughead spoiler.
Even last year when preferred pick Salem went and the boys plumped for Lennon smelt a bit like desperation.
The unanimous public declarations of "sticking to the plan" to drafting a midfielder do have me worried that if Wright falls to 12, we won't have the balls to ditch our "plan" and do the bleedin' obvious.

I hope we do doubt coz 'sound overhead mark' doesn't look good.

Wright can take a grab, he just doesn't hustle & bustle like a Roughie. If we overlook him for another vanilla, and then get caught with our pants down if Maric loses steam, the spotlight will firmly be on all our list managers. The clock is now officially ticking, we have 4 years to make a serious tilt, can't afford any missteps.

It was known well in advance that the Dees would be taking Salem. The question was whether Collingwood took Lennon at 10, in which case we would've taken Zac Jones over Nathan Freeman.

Yeah, Salem was linked to us very early in the piece but Jones was the late bolter that year.
