Pick 12 discussion.

If we overlook Wright for Ellis I will be demoralised.

Yeah, I can't see logic in that. I think Ellis is a really neat footballer, does a lot of things right, very professional from all accounts and a great leader. And I think he'll be a solid foot solider at AFL level. Will play a lot of good footy. But he'll never win a game or have a burst of brilliance.

Ellis is in the Conca and Vlaustin mould so there is a fair chance Frank is a fan. I just think we are accumulating too many plodders. When you are a horrible side, you need to add this type to just sure up your list and get your side competitive for longer stretches of the game. But we are past that. That baseline of 8-18 is almost built. We need players that have the skill set to be match winners with a burst of brilliance or the ability to be top 8 players in top 6 sides. I see Wright, Weller, Cocky, The Picketts or even Ahern fitting that mould. That's part of the reason I would have gone after Jeffy Garlett. I see Ellis and Duggan as solid foot soldiers that will add depth but won't advance the group.

As I have said before I am no drafting expert..

But I will be very disappointed if these guys are available - Wright, Weller, Cocky, The Picketts or even Ahern - and we take Ellis...

I am also a supporter of Hardwick, not a bagger.. BUT he was adamant in the press conference after our elimination loss to PA that he knew what the team needed. Pretty sure most of us were on the same page thinking that meant pace. Cocky, Weller or Picket may not be the whole answer but certainly part of it..

Ellis on the other hand:
Left-footed medium midfielder who is a star at the clearances with his clean hands and makes quick and correct decisions. Uses the ball well by hand and foot and has good game sense. Averaged 14 disposals and four tackles in his five matches in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Missed the late part of the season with a foot injury, which forced him out of testing at the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

Is exactly what FJ seems to love so we will probably pick him up.....

Going on the AFL highlight packages you wouldn't pick Ellis inside the top 30. How many marks in front of his face when he is totally unmanned followed by a dinky 25 meter kick to an unmanned team mate do we need to see to admit that a player has mastered the basics of footy?

If we take Ellis first pick I hope he has a lot more to offer than what's on the AFL site.

Nakia? Now that is a highlights package!

Couldn't agree more, we need gamebreakers in our side, if we don't recruit speed then we may as well get the 203cm giant who can kick like Dean Cox and will monster 99% of the defenders playing today.

The players that i would be extremely happy with in order are
Laverde,Cockatoo,Pickett,Ahern,Weller,Wright,De Goey & Considering that Patracca,Brayshaw,McCartin,Lever,Moore will be already gone . We would be extremely unlucky not to get 1 of these players.

Really want Cockatoo & Menadue with our 2 selections - Need for Speed

In 2016 these 2 players replacing Foley & Newman in the team would really change the Dynamics of the side and make us a fast team

Hey Gus, what were Duggan's repeat sprint and endurance results like?
I'm not that hot on using 20m sprints as a measure of pace, and he looks a lot quicker than a 3.20 or whatever it was.

I wonder what the chances are of Menadue being available at 33. Slim, you'd think. Hopefully some clubs are turned off by his frame.

No love for Duggan at 12?

Duggan is the next cab if frank goes outside the top 12 but really will be so excited about - Im hoping for Menadue really dont think he will be available but stranger things have happened

What would you think about
#12-Cockatoo
#33-Menadue

Is that enough to get the juices flowing

Absolutely. Menadue at 33 would have me satisfied in any case!

I'm hoping the Ellis talk is just the usual talk of a reach which comes just before the draft. Just before 2011 we were rumoured to be taking either Kersten or Marksworth with pick 15. Of course we ultimately did the right thing and took the guy who's been in the AA40 and come 2nd in the JD, rather than the others who have played about 5 games between them.

With Arnot being delisted i get the impression that Peter Wright would be our first pick followed by 4 midfielders.

We've only got 4 picks at this stage.
