Pick 12 discussion.

What's the go with Damien Cavka? So far this finals series he has averaged 28 disposals and 4 goals per game.

He must be flying up the draft order.

With a cap on IC changes to be implemented soon enough, players like Cavka will become a bit more important.
A bit to much of an outside mid but if teams think he can improve in that area he could become a bolter on draft day.

What is his pace like?

My gut feeling is that he'll be in the 6-12 bracket, same as Pickett. I have Pickett marginally ahead of him at this stage but would not be disappointed with Laverde. We need pace & these 2 are just about top of the class for line breaking ability.

He does possess a little x-factor, Stevie J is closer to the mark IMO (splitting hairs I know). He's strong overhead without the explosive leap of Wingard but is extremely dangerous at ground level. He has quite of few tricks up the sleeve, dribble goals, running goals & good distance on his preferred right. He's also capable on his left so won't be caught out too often. Like Stevie J, he has a formidable side step, it's something that allows him to part the seas and buy some time. Whereas Chad has spent most of his time up forward this year, I see Laverde as a damaging midfielder in the long term. Much will come down to his aerobic capacity but I think in 2-3 seasons he'll be fit enough to mix it with the best.

If we land Laverde at our pick, I'd be ecstatic.

I know Wingard and Johnson have been put up for comparison, and really, nothing bad can be said about that.

For mine however, I just can't go past him for a walk up clone of WHE, and THAT is exactly what we need. Would be a phenomenal addition to our side.

Unfortunately, I can't see Laverde getting past Gold Coast. They are set for talls, set for pure mids. He's perfect for them.

Fair comparison, probably a bit more physically imposing at the equivalent age but there's definite similarities. WHE took some skyscraping marks this year, haven't seen that yet from Laverde but everything else checks out - pace, line breaking aggression, penetrating kick, lovely sidestep. I'm almost convincing myself to rank him over Pickett, will wait on the running results before making a final call.

Hadn't seen that one, nice grab, I think I'm developing a mancrush. :hearton

I'm trying hard not to, as I think I'll be disappointed. Tipping he'll either end up at Carlton or GC. Heard talk he might even go top 5. :(

Unfortunately I think you are right and Laverde isn't a chance to get to us now. Ahern, Duggan, De Gooey or Weller look the best prospects from a midfield perspective. I wonder if FJ would consider a tall if a player like Durdin or Goddard was still avilable at our pick ?? The old best available criteria !

Would definitely take Durdin, best available. Still undecided between Ahern & Weller, will wait for the combine results.

Not sure on the GC, I reckon they still stockpile talent. A few will want out. They are still the wild card.

If Laverde slips through to our pick I will be stoked.

He's arguably the most talented at their pick anyway, and they don't have anyone like him.

You and me both, unless we pass on him.

Tom Langford and Reece McKenzie, both big climbers since the championships. Langford big chance of top 10 now and McKenzie into the 1st Rd. Ahern could drop, however, West C will snap up if Pickett is gone. Laverde is top 10 so forget him.

Like the look of Ahern.Any chance he'll still be there at pick 12?

TD yes there is a chance he will be and he would have to be up there in the calculations. Does anyone reckon he is right to make a debut in seniors next year ? For physique reason I say not.

Langford in the top 10 is interesting, not completely sold on him to be honest, he moves well but doesn't always make the right decisions, he's one example of a player who I wouldn't be relying on DE as an accurate measure. I would take Goddard over him all things considered.

Reece McKenzie will probably be a Blue, it would appear to be the main reason they traded down.

Laverde will go to Collingwood at 5, Hine loves him and for good reason.

Ahern may drop, I hope so, he's exactly what we need and would make our pick 33 selection much easier in terms of picking an inside mid.

Won't be ready for full time duties one would think, brief cameos as a small forward seems feasible.
