Pick 12 discussion.

Really like Weller, disposal top notch and just looks like AFL material. Not sure he would be an out & out star but looks very accomplished. Quite a few talls in this draft, I'd be tempted if Durdin was available, also like Laverde for his exceptional kicking. Ahern is another who will be well in contention. Scoop mentioned Menadue, a bit of a riskier proposition but he's the exact type we need, still not so sure he fits the template for Frank's first rounders though.

I see Weller as far too much in the Conca mould. Foot solider. Want see his sprint times at camp. The one thing I do like is that he has already been invoked with AFL via the Suns academy program. Don't under estimate how big a advantage this is. Gives a six month advantage on those just coming into the AFL system. But I am not sold on Weller at 12. Second round pick in a heartbeat but I think we can do better.

Menadue is a tall skinny speedster. Has the thing I like, time. And a great step. Same with Jayden Laverde. They both are big onballers but have raw pace. Breakaway pace. Laverde is already 82kgs, Menadue is 70kgs. That's why I have Laverde my preferred option in the first round if it comes down to these two. But again at 12, we should walk away with a really good player.

Is Laverde comparable to someone like Macrae? With those measurables and skills I can see him being picked in the top 7 or 8.

Both sound great Scooper.

Who ever we pick up with our 1st pick needs to be able to make an impact straight away, cant be another Lennon. We need players who are ready now or we finish bottom half of the 8 again

not sure of his size take a guess that he is a tall Ben Brown brother
cameron is seen as a far better prospect than Ben

Love the look of Caleb Daniel.

Don't be put off by his height (Jake Neade is just 2 cms taller).

Just not sure where he would be placed in the overall scheme of things.

Does not have the same ball finding abilities as Macrae. Macrae only average 18 disposals in the TAC cup but in the finals that year it jumped to 30 something.

Laverde averages 16 disposals from memory and I hoped he'd step up in finals like Macrae but he got injured in the final round, missed the first week of finals and the Jets lost.

My favourite for our pick would be Liam Duggan at the moment. Was moved from half back into the midfield after the champs and exploded. 25+ touches and multiple goals became the norm after that.

Cheers Serg, I remember Macrae's finals series well. The Granny was him vs Graham/Membrey from memory in terms of standout performers.

In any case we just need some players with some footskills on the wing or coming off half back as a priority imo.

thoughts on tom lamb i just saw his highlights can kick both feet 193cm and played midfield in tac.

The gap between his best, which has been on show maybe 3 or 4 times this year, sometimes for a quarter, sometimes for a half rarely for a fully game is top shelf. If he had showed that level for full games he would be a top 5 pick. But his standard, average games are awful The gap between best and worst is huge. But on talent when everybody is going at 100% this boys best is as good as anyone in this draft. But how often will it be put on show? Think Jarred Brennan.

If the ceiling of his talent is that high, then it's all in the development n growth of the player. Obviously if he's patchy then he's not an early draft pick but somewhat later with a view to him needing a few seasons of magoos and hard work to realise the potential.

Still, for a first rounder you'd want a bankable commodity, I'm not sure we can afford to deviate from the philosophy that has served us well over the past 8 years. Frank's first rounders have been generally spot on.

He frustrates me and while I don't doubt his talent he wouldn't be a high priority.

Yep, I'd roll the dice with a second rounder but not our first.

Gussy, what do you think of Miller? I like him a lot.

Laverde has a little Chad Wingard funk in his game.
What the doctor ordered. But will he last to our pick?

I think Gold Coast hold the key here. It's either him or Weller.

My gut feeling is that he'll be in the 6-12 bracket, same as Pickett. I have Pickett marginally ahead of him at this stage but would not be disappointed with Laverde. We need pace & these 2 are just about top of the class for line breaking ability.

He does possess a little x-factor, Stevie J is closer to the mark IMO (splitting hairs I know). He's strong overhead without the explosive leap of Wingard but is extremely dangerous at ground level. He has quite of few tricks up the sleeve, dribble goals, running goals & good distance on his preferred right. He's also capable on his left so won't be caught out too often. Like Stevie J, he has a formidable side step, it's something that allows him to part the seas and buy some time. Whereas Chad has spent most of his time up forward this year, I see Laverde as a damaging midfielder in the long term. Much will come down to his aerobic capacity but I think in 2-3 seasons he'll be fit enough to mix it with the best.
