Pick 12 discussion.

He was always going to be a slow starter, his draft camp results indicated a work in progress. As far as meeting expectations is concerned, I think he's done reasonably well at VFL level and seems to be doing all the stuff that Hardwick is insisting upon. Not overly concerned at this stage, I think we always knew he wouldn't burst onto the scene like our other recent draftees. Although highly unlikely, I wouldn't mind seeing him get a brief taste of finals footy, might be just the tonic to get him completely focused.

I think it's great that we're no longer in a position where our #1 pick is an automatic walkup start for the senior 22. We've got quality and some depth in our squad.

though I gues the slipside is you could argue our picks are duds and that's why they aren't getting a gig

I think it even goes a bit further to be that we can give draftees some time in the 2nds to get on top of what they need to do, to develop physically etc. It is great.

Yep. The Michael Tuck theory.

While we're pumping our own tyres, there is a post of mine in here somewhere, posted about June last year, that simply reads:

Bontempelli Bontempelli Bontempelli

I rest my case.

Yes, you were very hot for Bonti, credit on that call. I'm absolutely astounded at his impact in his first year, thought he'd be a 2-3 year project. Ultimately his footy smarts have shone through, I pegged him for a chb/chf role but felt there would be some serious development required. What I didn't expect was a near complete game to emerge from such a scrawny teenager. The James Hird comparison maybe setting the bar pretty high but that's the standard he's brought to the table. The ball's in the Dogs court now, they have Stringer also looking the goods so it's time to finally deliver on the development front.

The Dogs have some very good midfielders but their spine is severely lacking.
Yep, Bontempelli, Libba, Macrae, Wallis, Hrovat, Smith, Dahlhaus, Stringer but then it's Jarrod Grant, Liam Jones, Roberts, Roughead, Dickson, Cordy, Campbell......

Also they still have a huge reliance on a couple of twilighters yet remain down the bottom. Positive is that they are banking these top picks and choosing well.

I think the interesting thing is our later picks, Gordon and Lloyd, and whether they were the right call.

Gordon was the right call.

We need some pace this year with 12!!

we need speed added to the list. The only player on our list with genuine speed is Lids. Sure we have other runners but no one with his turn of foot

Is Pickett goin to be around our pick? Who are the other silky quick mids that might last to there......been wrong before but I reckon our first pick will be traded

Will be line-ball, reckon pick 12 would be the furthest he'll drift, could go as high as 6.

Thanks Bully any others you rate around that pick or later

Really like Weller, disposal top notch and just looks like AFL material. Not sure he would be an out & out star but looks very accomplished. Quite a few talls in this draft, I'd be tempted if Durdin was available, also like Laverde for his exceptional kicking. Ahern is another who will be well in contention. Scoop mentioned Menadue, a bit of a riskier proposition but he's the exact type we need, still not so sure he fits the template for Frank's first rounders though.

I heard GCS were all over him.
