Pick 12 discussion.

As much as the Dees are attached to Freeman, surely they would take Aish if available. That would leave Freeman/Scharenburg/Lennon. I think these three are the likely players available at 12 if McCarthy goes at 7.(and doggies take Bontempelli)

I can't see Melbourne taking a risk with another predominantly outside mid, the scars of Morton & to a lesser extent Toumpas, are still evident. They would probably take Salem if available but I suspect Collingwood know this and will take him at 6. Brisbane will be scared off by Scharenberg's homesickness factor (and I hear this was played up in the interviews) so will opt for McCarthy instead. This leaves Collingwood to decide between Scharenberg & Aish.

We lusted after Aish as much as any club wanted something they couldn't get, but he just wouldn't come over
But that was a generation ago
Or is that just my bad memory?
Whoever picks Aish the younger needs to have their due diligence done, be warned, he could skip off home.

At pick 12 it would be an investment unlikely to depreciate. I must admit I'm a bit torn about Aish, on one hand his disposal is elite but on the other, his contested possession count is up there with the likes of Morton, Toumpas, Gaff and Polec. Tough call, although I think he would do well at a club like Richmond. Ellis was never a contested possession junkie either, but we seem to have accommodated his strengths beautifully.

No way Hine leaves Scharanberg on the table if there at pick 6. He will take the calculated gamble that Salem will be there at 10. The thing is his gamble will more than likely pay off with McCarthy, McDonald and Freeman all but locked way at 7, 8 & 9.

What an off season it would be for the Pies. Talk about re-building your list in one off-season.

Yep, I've said it before that those two are guaranteed 200 gamers, that would leave us to choose between Aish & Lennon (presuming Bontempelli goes to the Dogs). Who would you choose?

I reckon Salem is a very strong chance to go to the Dees if available and the Pies know that. It's probably more likely Scharenberg is on the table at 10 than Salem. Either way the pies are in a great position

makes sense, hope it falls into place and make a tougher decision for us.

I like Lennon but Aish would be too good to refuse for me.

The way I see it from the discussion on this thread, there is pick 1 (Boyd) and 2 (Kelly) and then it appears daylight till about pick 13 and then another gap of sorts - given the way picks 3 onwards keep getting shuttled around.

The good thing for us is that even though we may not get to choose the top players in that second group, we are still going to get a very good player for us and I am will be pretty happy with most of the players that are being suggested on here.

not sold on Lennon like everyone else. its getting to the point where im starting to sense excuses being made about his testing results (note i didnt use that american term....serenity now)

Spot on. Salem will go at 9 if there. Freeman would then go at 13 I reckon, which will be funny when Carlton fail to develop another kid into a footballer. :hihi

Who ever Carlton pick this year I will tell uninformed Carlton supporters that they picked up another Kane Lucas. That will be enough to get their blood boiling. >:D

I am still sticking with Lennon. He has all makings of a player who can turn a game on its head by kicking quick goals. I have no issue with his combine results. Lennon has the runs on the board playing the game not running up and down a basketball court.

Aish is very skilled footballer but he is too outside for me. Championship numbers reflected that (19 contested possessions, 60 uncontested). And at 75kg he will need some serious gym work to match it in the AFL.

Heard Lennon played in our interclub practice match with Hawthorn at the start of the year and kicked 3 goals, can anyone verify?

Lennon, Freeman or Salem...either way we will get a good player.

There is a kid from SA Luke Dunstan who was their captain in the u/18 carnival. If you read his bio he reads much like Vlas in that he is hard at it, great skills but not overly quick. Well Vlas was knocked for lack of pace and no engine but still played nearly every game and never looked out of place.

This is why I wouldn't get too carried away with Lennon's poor results, Vlas has looked liked a 100 game veteran from the word go.

As for Dunstan, he'll go ok but he has no right foot and isn't overly damaging with his possessions. He's your typical late teens pick-up who should adapt well to AFL but won't be a superstar.

Aish at 12 is an unbelievable outcome, I never would have seen it coming to be honest (still might not if the Doggies pick him at 4), and he's super skilled, DE is at the top of the class along with Battersby. I dunno, I think I would take the plunge, people compare him to Gibbs and I don't mind that comparison, even from a back flank he could do untold damage. The skinny part doesn't bother me, he's been playing against men for two years now and has already copped some heavy attention from the taggers. Considering we've picked up numerous blue collar workers recently, I don't see the issue in recruiting a classy mid like Aish. Ultimately, I can see him playing in a similar manner to Dal Santo, and that's certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

That's a good summation bullus, a player like Aish would have been wasted at Richmond in the not to distant past - however we are a different team presently & a highly skilled finisher would not go astray.
