Pick 12 discussion.

Would FJ rate Lennon over Scharenberg?

That's a million dollar question, I would personally take Scharenberg but the Lennon rumblings have been around for months now.

Salem looks to be out of our grasp now although we should get another quality player if he goes early.

1. Boyd
2. Kelly
3. Billings
4. Aish / Scharenberg
5. KK
6. Aish / Scharenberg / Bontempelli
7. McCarthey
8. McDonald
9. Freeman
10. Salem / Bontempelli / Scharenberg
11. Sheed
12. Lennon / Salem / Scharenberg

I'd be happy with any of Lennon, Salem or Scharenberg. Though I'll bet any money Scharenberg and Salem will be gone by 12.

Unfortunately my preferences would be :
1. Scharenberg
2. Salem
3. Lennon

But again, happy with any of them.

Im 100% sure Salem won't be there which sucks. Lennon is nearly a certainty to be there and we can hope and pray Scharenberg gets there too.

Salem or Scharenberg are my preferred choices, well i just hope that Salem falls to pic 12 can play inside and out, not afraid to get his hands dirty....Has exquisite skills and has the speed to provide the team with much needed run and carry just love his competitive nature....

Scharenberg just reminds me so much of Ben Reid who could swing back or forward, reads the play really well and has excellent foot skills, agility top notch and his marking is very very strong, could in time also pinch hit in the midfield....

With Elton, Astbury and Griff thereabouts btw Elton is my pic out of those 3 but a Scharenberg could give us that tall swingman with all the attributes that we are looking for....

Freeman is the one I like best but I don't think there's much of a chance he will be there at 12.

If Hine winds up with Salem & Scharenberg it will be a masterclass in trading and drafting. Out goes Shaw, in comes a 10 year rebounding defender, out goes Daisy in comes an equally skilled midfielder/utility in Salem, and to top it off they'll have Adams who will be a more than adequate replacement for Ball. They also picked up Jesse White who is a major upgrade on Lynch, and were ridiculously fortunate to land the best junior ruck in the country last year. Rebuilding at it's best.

It's the same players I got in the Phantom draft.

And you could be well pleased with that haul. I guess the big gamble will be the player they select at 6, if Scharenberg goes there, they will be nervously awaiting Melbourne's selection because Salem could be in the frame at 9.

Yep, Hine gets it done. It's an another amazing off season. The Pies spread of ages would be interesting.

I would take Scharenberg in a second if he is there.

I've got a sinking feeling that we may get left with Freeman.
Looks a more than adequate footballer but lacks the X factor to really get the adrenaline pumping.
Would knowledgable scribes be disappointed if he was our pick 12?

Yeah don't really want Freeman, more hype than substance at this stage. Could be a very good player eventually but his kicking is meh and decision making a bit iffy. Better prospects around IMO... I'm on the Acres wagon

Freeman has a huge ceiling, his combination of pace and endurance is a tantalising prospect. But he's also a major gamble, clubs who are seriously considering his recruitment will be banking on his disposal and decision making to improve and will be hoping that he develops a bit more consistency. If all the cards fall his way and he lands at a decent club, there's every chance he could become a genuine A grader. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to take the plunge if Lennon, Scharenberg & Taylor were on the board but if he does become a Tiger, I'm sure he would bring a brand of football which would be exciting to watch. He's the closest thing to a human cannonball that I've seen in quite some time.

Sounds like the reasons that led to dangerfield and selwood both slipping a little

Danger didn't slide, if anything Adelaide took a bit of a gamble, one that certainly paid off. What Freeman has over Danger is a sizable tank, I think if he improves his skills quickly then he could make an impression much sooner than Dangermouse. Selwood slipped because of a knee reconstruction, on talent alone he was top 3 material.

FWIW my prediction of the top 16

2. GWS - Scharanberg

This would have to be a pretty close effort.
But even if this list was endorsed by all the best footy judges - there will be a kid on this list who doesn't go 16 and of course a kid off the radar will get called early.

My crack at this stage

1. GWS - Tom Boyd
2.GWS - Jake Kelly
3. St.Kilda - Jack Billings
4. WB - James Aish
5. GC - Kade Kolodjashnij
6. Collingwood - Christian Salem
7. Brisbane - Matt Scharenberg
8. NM - Luke McDonald
9. Melb - Nathan Freeman
10. Coll - Marcus Bontempelli
11. WC - Dom Sheed
12. Rich - Ben Lennon
13. Carl - Cam McCarthy
14. GWS - Blake Acres
15. Syd - Luke Dunstan
16. Geel - Lewis Taylor
17. Frem - George Hewett
18. St.K - Billy Hartung
19. St.K - Trent Dumont

I've looked at Lennons highlights and he's a standard Dimma / F Jackson plug and play special
I wouldn't be disappointed - he's a very clean mark and finisher - dangerous half fwd
He will have a year just like Vlastuin!

Lennon looks very very good so noone should be disappointed if we land him.
