I gather you don't rate Taylor then, to have him ranked outside the top 40 is a big call, he's one player who will be ready to go in 2013.

Maybe a tad bit harsh but he's certainly not poetry in motion. He's also very one-sided, which may cause problems in the long run. I think his range will be 15-20, a perfect fit for St Kilda on the rebuild.
Yeah I struggle to get excited by Taylor. Every year we will get a small, quick player like this who gets compared to Harvey but I don't think Taylor, Hartung or even Kennedy for that matter compare even close to Harvey. Harvey has terrific smarts and doesn't panic. Taylor for mine doesn't have Harvey's foot skills. He can throw in some howlers. He loves to take the game on but too many times I've seen him run into trouble in bad positions on the field and just defer the pressure to somebody else, so for mine his decision making isn't the greatest. And that's before we even discuss his size, which I think will prevent him playing too much inside as he's not a real bull at the gate type like Prestia. As a small forward, I haven't seen him play that role so not sure how he's going to pull that out of the bag at AFL level?

Don't get me wrong, when he gets it right he's very damaging, but he also stuffs it up too much for mine. I'd prefer an Impey type as that smaller mid/fwd type. Even Wilson.

Fair enough, I guess this is where our rubrics differ somewhat. Those issues you mentioned are reasonably accurate but can be rectified with some TLC on the coaching front. Most of these juniors have flaws, it just comes down to identifying the ones which have scope for improvement and the ones which will become bedrock. With regards to Taylor, he can occasionally run himself into trouble but when in space he's a very efficient player, his KE at TAC level has been around the 68% mark for most of the season, for a guy who wins a swag of contested ball that's a perfectly acceptable number. As far as his goal kicking is concerned, he was exceptionally damaging in 2012, averaging a goal a game. His main weapons will also translate well to that role, that is hitting packs at pace and emerging with ball - that is what I consider to be x-factor personified.

I know you're not a fan of sub 178cm players but when I look at Collingwood who have 7 players in that range, I can see there's a place for them if good enough. It will be interesting to see how Taylor evolves because I think he's the equal of Prestia, despite having a slightly different skill set.

With regards to rubrics I was explaining in the other thread I try use the Richmond model of skills, competitiveness, character and size. All those guys that are touted as first rounders I probably rate a bit harsher because we'd be using pick 12 on them. Whereas others I'm more lenient on as they are more a pick 50 prospect. I'm probably being too harsh on Taylor due to expectations I have of a 1st rounder.

Tigs & Bullus, who's the player that most resembles Conca, Ellis & Vlaustin as that's who I feel FJ will select.
Probably Salem and maybe Dunstan. It's hard to tell because you don't hear much about character, which is one of the key components of the selection process. You only hear the bad eggs like Garlett etc.

class and pace, class and pace, class and pace. I don't care one smidgeon about height, we need class and pace. Aker, Kerr, Harvey, and now Wingard, Walters, Cyril, these type of classy, fast, tough, and short players are a key component to sustained success IMO. get one please Frank

I think his kicking is fine tbh from what i've seen. I have him easily in my top 10. He's just not a flashy type so doesn't stand out. Just a good footballer. Same goes Sheed.

Reckon Dunstan looks a solid type. Already well built for his age and size and would be closer to AFL ready than others.

Warming to Scharenberg.

There may be some surprises pulled in this draft and certain players could slide.

We could do with a Goddard type.

No chance. Not sure how much growth he has left in him but at 190cm and 87 kg already and the way he can play there is no chance he'll get to 12. Seriously good player.

Is there any chance they won't pick a midfielder and go for that key position kid that looks like roughead

I highly doubt it, it will almost certainly be a midfielder or Lennon.

And to console Brodders as he unravels from his foetal position, the Saints are very interested in Hartung.

Would have thought the Saints would use all early picks on mature-age players. ;D

good to know I have Jon Ralph on my side.

i'd love for us to get hartung

You might get your wish. This in an article I read today:

Hartung's small frame has put some clubs off, and while he started the year as a possible top-10 selection he could now slip into the second round if St Kilda doesn't pounce at 18-19.

we don't have a second rounder. no way he slips to 50.

But he'll be there at 12 if you want your wish to come true. Has slipped from a potential top 10 due to a so and so TAC season.

On the review for Salem on the afl site in the article it's mentioned that the Pies could look at him. There might be a few that slide that were considered a lock for the top 10.

Salem looks to be out of our grasp now although we should get another quality player if he goes early.
