What was Joel Selwood's sprint time? I think it was either 3.10 or 3.20. I remember FJ talking about sprint times in terms of standard deviations from the mean, and at 3.20 you had to have serious talent (e.g. Greg Williams) to overcome the pace deficit.

Steele Sidebottom was 3.25, that's about the best example I can think of. I remember Mitchell Grigg went from first rounder to third rounder after recording a 3.20 so it can have a serious impact on one's draft prospects.

As far as Bontempelli is concerned, it's worrying because he doesn't have much of an inside game, outside mids usually need to be pacy so it's looking doubtful he'll make it in the middle. I think his saving grace is he's 193cm, genuine KP height, and he has pretty good endurance.

That Gibbs is outside is a bit of a myth - it's just that Carlton play him in outside flanking roles. Only when they started playing him in the guts late in the season did he show that he had contested possession capability. Check out the Elimination final against us - he had something like 18-19 contested touches that day.

Your right bad call by me.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

For those experts in the depth of this years draft, is it even enough to consider trading pick 12 for saints 18 & 19 or giants 21 & 22? Acknowledge that the first pick wouldn't have quality of pick 12 player but we could certainly improve depth with another player around pick 20 ish.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

It's an interesting question Robbo. Maybe if GWS threw in O'Rourke or Saints threw in Reiwoldt or Steven ;D

It's an interesting thought, I'd probably say yes to the Saints but no to GC. 18 & 19 would almost certainly land two quality inside midfielders, we'd probably get to choose out of Crouch, Dumont, Dunstan & Hartung (the latter being more outside). Picks 21 & 22 are a fair bit more speculative, Garlett would come into contention which sweetens the deal a little, but there's a few more question marks surrounding some of the other likely contenders.

I never would have predicted, seems to play a lot quicker but there you go.

5mtrs 1.27 7%
10mtrs 1.98 10%
20mtrs 3.20 17%

Remember the low percentage isn't good.

I think his running from a standing start catches him out. He can accelerate all right once he's moving

He's still a great prospect but combine results can change or at least alter opinions.

His endurance results were noticeable

Beep 14 7
3km 10:19 86%

Salems results were excellent. Top 80% for the 3 sprints and top 75% for the the repeat sprint and 3km. A good blend of pace and endurance.

Bewitching results even!

Sorry, I'll get me coat! :-[

Whose that Dogs or GWS? Dogs definitely rate KK and he's expected to go at 4. Any idea who takes Aish?

Do you have good mail on that?

Great work Gus, it just confirms my thoughts on Salem, actually it's exceeded my expectations with regards to his sprint testing. He's also got a sweet sidestep and can shrug off tackles. For mine, he represents one of the safest options in the pool, let's just hope that Collingwood keep their ugly mitts off him.

Bontempelli seems to be firmly on the radar of Collingwood & Brissie, so we probably won't have to decide. I think with those sprint tests there maybe a thought that a good sprint coach will be able to build up his power. I'm still of the opinion his best position will be as a mobile key forward/defender.

Word has it that Crouch didn't really impress in his beep testing, how did you rate his overall performance?

Teams would have to look past his combine results and judge him purely as a footballer because we all know he can play.

His jumping tests were in the bottom 10%. His sprint tests in the bottom 25%. He did a 13 4 in the shuttle run and an 11.28 in the 3km which was about 25%

A "Diesel" Williams type?

He probably just didn't test as well as he could but I think it puts a different look on where he is likely to be drafted.
No one questions his football ability or his toughness in a contest but you have to work out how badly a team needs it and if someone similar is likely to be available at a later pick.

Yep. Should happen. GWS flinging a surprise at 2 could throw all that but that appears unlikely.

The speculation at the moment is Boyd, Kelly, Billiings, Aish and Kolodjasnij from 1 to 5. Scharenberg might go at 4.

This differs a bit from your mail. Kolodjasnij I believe isn't in their mix.

Re: Looks like Pick 10

Gus, with Salem testing so well do you think he would nudge out Ben Lennon as our first preference? I'm assuming Lennon ticked most of the boxes for endurance & speed.

Depends what we are really after. If it's a mid the Salem is a real chance. If it's a 189cm forward who can do a spell in the midfield then Lennon might be worth a shot.
Lennon got better as the season progressed but he didn't test that well.

Just remember the combine tests are more for tie-breakers rather than the be all.

Richardson confirmed we'll be grabbing a mid, I wonder if that includes Lennon. From the naked eye, I believe Lennon can be a mid, any guy who racks up 37 touches at TAC level must have some onballing nous, and this is after spending the majority of time as a half forward. When you say he tested poorly, was that for endurance or speed, or both? I know his skills testing was impressive, curious to know if tested in the top 60% for the other categories.

Interesting. Pies are expecting Aish will be there at 6 and potentially push him to 10.
