Pick 12 discussion.

Thanks for breaking that news. Good to know nothing leaks from the RFC these days. Strange how the only pick everyone is certain about outside the top 5 and the father sons is pick 12. Geelong at 10, GC at 8, WC at 11 and even GWS at 6 & 7 everyone is still guessing

If the Ellis #12 Really does eventuate the question really needs to be asked

As you mentioned apart from Moore#9/Heeney#18 every other selection is in the air yet ever year Richmonds selection is just about known 4-5 days ahead and usually gets to us even though just about every other team knows who we will take.

Really hope its not Ellis really not that exciting

This is a beaut thread. Thanks to the students who've contributed so much of the breadth and depth of their knowledge. Bully is informed and fired up. Heh heh.

As an armchair expert with a bunch of highlight reels and test numbers I'm a bit of a Duggan fan.

sh!t. It's over. Who did we get? :eek:ld (Oh, not 'til later today.)

He's ugly in his kicking action, tied up in the hip but you see him use quickly. And the kid can spot em up. 2.88 for 20m. Great time trials. He's not yet 18yo. The highlights reel doesn't show much of it but there are reports that he runs both ways. Yes, please. His low 2014 stats were, apparently injury related?

He's very light. Maybe he's a rover. But despite his ungainly kicking action he looks a bit glamourous to me. And he kicks a goal.

The more I read about Ellis the more I think Simon Black.

Is this a fair call?

I've thought that for a while now, or Dom Tyson (who has been compared to Black). He's said himself he models his game on Heppell too which isn't a far off comparison.

Where did you find the time for his 20mts. Also would you know his repeat times

DUGGAN lived through a football tragedy in 2011 when his under-16 teammate at Bacchus Marsh, Nathan Prince, collapsed on the field and went into cardiac arrest.
Prince died 11 days later.
Five days after his funeral Duggan kicked two goals as Bacchus Marsh overcame a previously undefeated North Ballarat side to win a premiership they dedicated to Prince.
AFL legend Doug Hawkins, who coached the side and rated the win as the proudest moment of his football career, said he watched Duggan come of age during the troubled time.
“His finals performances against all odds with young Nathan lying in hospital … I watched that kid grow,” Hawkins told the Herald Sun.
Duggan is expected to go inside the top 20, with Richmond eyeing him at pick 12.

Just checking now, brother.

I did get the numbers from the interwebz, t-d-t. BUT i can't find em now. I reckon the 2.8something is right.

Sorry Jack but don't believe that Duggan is that quick.....potential top 5 if he was.

The extremes with which Ellis is discussed is quite amusing....from a Simon Black & Dyson Heppell type......to a slow link up player with no inside game or penetration in his kicking and definitely no right to be talked up as a top 20 pick let alone pick 12!

One thing that I do know now is that the club makes well informed decisions in all facets of its operations. This is not blind faith but rather based on demonstrable behaviours and actions over a number of yrs now.

Keyboard warriors can all have their view and that is a wonderful thing (and has made this thread compulsory reading) but I reckon our footy dept will make a sound decision based on information collected over a significant period of time.

I just texted someone I know at the KFC and they rate Ellis as an out and out star with potential to be Cotchin like, someone who is a footballer first. Good person from good family.

TT this is what all his coaches say too so there must be something in it. I'm hoping if he's selected by us that he turns into a gun so we can eat humble pie. Our recruiters know what they're doing.

I only checked the numbers, AG, because I already read them. I thought he was 2.91. Interwebz said '2.88'. It's a bit too easy to research and a bit too hard to document, these days.

Google at the time.

I can't quote where. But I know that Duggan is brisk. Footy talent? Can't testify.

Agree GEDS1..

Heard some arguments that Ellis is a chipper, outside player, not enough possies (hope his foot is ok)... All amusing stuff as every coach has said hes an inside mid with skill (rolls royce i believe..)... I dont watch the juniors but i trust our people that have watched over many years as opposed to 3min highlights..

Based on what ive read (rather than watched (little), i would be wrapt with (another) Ellis, i trust our development people...

Any Talented kid we pick up tomorrow i welcome, much more then pick 12 tomorrow for RFC, work your butts of guys and do the jumper proud!!

Go and check other clubs fan sites.

There are plenty of " I have it on good authority " posts there as well

He he, I have no idea if C Ellis will bring the goods. Looks a polished unit on film.

What his selection at 12 would tell me is that we are looking to continue the first use, offensive ball security model we have developed over 6 years.

Which isn't a criticism. Yet ;D

If he's so talked up about by previous coaches people who know etc, then why is no other team with atop 15 pick talking him up. Rfc are making him out to be a standout mid better than laverde Duggan weller etc yet every other club see it the opposite way. Are we too smart and way ahead of the rest? Or do we have our blinkers on and are just fixated on this bloke. He doesn't even fit our pressing needs of speed or X factor??
So which is it?
Surely 17 other teams recruiters can't be wrong can they??

Happy to ignore the interest that North and Essendon have in Ellis? Let's not forget DeGoey wasn't considered a top 10 pick until Collingwood got pick 5 in the Beams deal.
