Pick 12 discussion.

despite all the different top 10 forecasts in the press, pick 12 is nearly always listed as Ellis - i'm not close enough to have an opinion but it would be a surprise if another name is called out unless these jurnos are simply following the leader.....

Less credence than most, her bias towards Victorians is glaring. As for Ellis, I think we've played the perfect game of poker, 90% of Phantoms have him at 12, it's been a masterclass in distraction.
was just curious as to this smokescreen re: Ellis you speak of. all the mocks incl E.Quayle has us taking Ellis at 12. could we be after Weller/Duggan/Laverde instead?

Being a Keilor local now, I've asked a few in the know at the club about the 4 boys this year and the concencus seems to be the Ellis is the best. These guys have coached and watched Ellis, Laverde, Ahern & Cavka since juniors. I don't profess to know them well but happy to back Ellis if he comes to Tigerland.

Good to read Robbo.

When there is smoke there is fire....Ellis will be a Tiger tomorrow.

Let's hope the kid doesn't jump on any Richmond forums. ;D
Brando will front him and remind him "I'm the real Ellis here". ;D

i am trying to compile a list so i can follow the Draft & know if we have done well or not.
so if we get Ellis we should get who at 33/52 etc?
if we get Weller we should get who at 33/52 etc?
ditto for Laverde etc as well as anyone else thats a potential #12 pick

All the talk over the past few weeks (months) has been Petracca at number 1.

All of a sudden its now McCartin.

These things are never fully set in stone until the pick is taken. Nobody really knows for sure.

I'd be surprised if we didn't pick up Ellis now.

I'm sure he's a talent and will be a good player however in terms of type he is not what we need. All his highlights have him playing as a sweeping half back where he gathers and delivers. Some say he is an inside contested mid, however there is little evidence of this in his highlights.

We are very one paced and predictable and we need to add different types that provide other dimensions to our list.

This does not surprise me as both dimma and FJ don't rate pace, run and flair. Dimma said after the elimination loss that he knows what we need. My guess is he wasn't referring to pace.

Any number of picks after ours >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> our pick

He was referring to a new coach. If we don't improve and win a final this year coming up, that'll have to be the end of it for him.

I'm wondering how many of the grand final sides over the past 10 years have been "one paced" sides. Certainly Geelong might be considered amongst that group, although they had Wojo, Varcoe and Christensen at various times. Be interesting to look at....

I just texted someone I know at the KFC and they rate Ellis as an out and out star with potential to be Cotchin like, someone who is a footballer first. Good person from good family.

I trust this persons judgement and endorsement so I would be happy if we end up with the Ellis to Ellis show. However if this is the way it pans out I really hope the club addresses speed with the next picks though.

Whilst I understand people talking up the need for pace we are still reliant upon a few too many when it comes to winning the contested ball. We just lost Jackson who was arguably one of our best.

The loss against Port was purely due to our inability to get first use. The likes of Wines, Ebert, Boak etc smashed us. It wasnt their pace that did the job but their ability to beat us on the inside.

Ellis doesn't appear to be a contested inside mid. His highlights show him being a sweeping back flanker.

Ellis, Lennon, Vlaustin, B.Ellis. There's a theme. Trying to make one paced flankers into mids.

Agree. Exactly where does it show Ellis to be a good inside mid, who consistently wins his own ball?? Def not in his highlights. Big big worry.
Man wat a disappointment if we go this way. Not so much that we got him but more so what we could have got to really improve our team and overlooked! For some *smile* reason unbeknown to most of us!
Please be wrong

But Harry is that because the selection position of each of those players did not allow us to select a pure mid?? If we select Ellis this year we may be guilty of that but Ellis MkI was Pick 16. I don't have all the facts from Vlaus's year and last so I am hypothesising.

its amazing how many are bagging our possible because they dont like his highlights. im guessing/hoping our recruiters are going off a bit more.

Re: Pick 12 discussion

Spot on Harry. Didn't notice much of an inside game from an inside midfielder. His kicking is apparently a strength, to me he lacks penetration. The ball doesn't get to it's destination quick enough. That combined with lack of leg speed is a major worry. Plodder for mine. Maybe as a second rounder. Hoping we don't select him.

Any out of Laverde, Weller, Duggan would be a better fit.

I don't mind his highlights but think his type is not what we need.
