Sorry Phantom, you seem to be busy on this thread but isnt 'never forgetting' the same as still holding a grudge and has this apology been widely accepted by the Jewish community?

Being able to show compassion and forgiveness doesnt seem to be in great quantities around the Middle East I think.

Hey Lids, how long ago were those photos taken mate?
If they're current pics it really opens my eyes to what its like. I'm used to seeing Beirut on the news, more so when Israel were bombing the place. It really dispels my idea of what it is like, that's for sure.
(I agree, that lovely lady (and her t-shirt) are doing a great promo job)

You could find selective pics like that for most cities, Beijing being one example, but they don't necessarily tell a true story of what goes on around the corner.

the top one is of Down Town which is the new Beiruts showpiece beachside suburb, a really modern city centre but one that has old world charm, one could easily think he/she was in Paris or any other European city. second one is the famous Hamra shopping strip, 3rd is Verdun shopping centre and the fourth the new marina. all would be no more then 2-3 years old. the fifth would be no more then 28 years old i think. ;)

unfortunately there is also a lot of shelled buildings in the south and muslim populated suburbs of beirut which while an eyesore add a certain character to beirut but its a constant reminder of the countries troubled past

no photoshopped sky or beaches there rosy.

all legit but obviously ive chosen the good ones that paint Beirut in a positive light. the truth is that beirut is more like pics then the picture that phanto was painting

Thanks for that info mate. It does look very cosmopolitan and old world charm.
Such a bloody shame, all the troubles in that part of the world.

Due to my Dad being hospitalised were held up in Beijing for several days last week Lebo and it was clear blue sky every single day. Very cold but glorious sunny skies. Given there are no beaches but there are very modern buildings, including Starbucks, KFC, Maccas , and city malls etc. The city centre is very "Western" looking, and massive areas of Hutongs have been demolished and replaced with gardens and parks, but those examples don't paint an accurate picture of the city of Beijing. You don't have to look too far to see the contrasts.

Re: Not Good News From Israel

Amazing pictures given the bombing campaign of the IDF in 2006, although most of the damage was in Southern Lebanon.

the Christians have all been massacred or expelled

The Lebanese Christian population is estimated at around 40%. One of the most common Zionist myths is that Arabs can't coexist with other religions, but this is clearly not the case in Lebanon.

:rofl

Hopefully they do it like in Paris and force them to fit in with the old world charm of the city and not the horrendous sites they have in the West.

You looking for a job with the Beirut Tourism Commission Lids? ;D

'I love Beirut' too. :whistle

just doing my bit mate

they rarely show people going to school, shopping or eating a meal on the news. for some reason news editors think violence, destruction and killing is better to watch and people never see the beautiful Beirut that i fell in love with when saw it for the first time as an 19yo. i love it so much ive been there 5 times in the last 13 years and everytime visit to beirut will take me new cafe or street or restaurant that ive never been to and makes me fall in love with it all over again. a truly beautiful city

ive never ever felt in danger or that my personal security or health has been at risk but seeing the shelled buildings and armed soldiers walking he streets reminds us the peace is fragile. lebanese are used to it though.

sorry to hear about your dad rosy, i hope he is on the mend.
