As an aside, this last weekend commemorates the 20th anniversary of the French terrorist attack on the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland harbour 1986. Many of us who remember this despicable act can see why the French get on so well with terrorist organisations.
While we're slinging barbs Phanto, here's another interesting aniversary last week.  ;)

Yes, Evo, those right wing people should not only be locked up but should be psychologically treated. Israeli or not, this type of thing cannot be supported.

Just as I have concerns about right-wing Christians & Muslims, I have an even bigger concern about right-wing Israelis.

1. They didn't live in the country when it was battling for survival during the 40s, 50s & 60s.
2. They all seem to have exemptions to military service.
3. They are the ones who built the settlements on the west bank.

Like most typical right-wingers, they spend alot of time spitting fire but always let others do the dirty work for them.

What had to be done back in 1946, had to be done, but leave the commemorations out.

Re: Not Good News From Israel

BTW, did you see the SBS doco, late on Sunday afternoon, about Jimmy Carter's presidency. It was excellent.

Let's see if George Bush could organise a Camp David agreement, like Carter did with Sadat & Begin.

As Jimmy said, "Let the US be a 'beacon on the hill' for liberty, freedom & democracy."

Well i don't know about that. One mans freedom fighter is another mans terroist I guess.

Also you can't lay it all at the feet of the right either. It's interesting how many of the militant zionists came from the Kibbutz.

Evo,
Not having a go at you personally....but sick of seeing on this thread, as well as another forum I go to the line:

"One mans freedom fighter is another mans terrorist."

Unless I'm mistaken, a freedom-fighter is someone who is fighting for freedom (obviously ::)), but fighting against the military or government that it feels is persecuting them.
People who decide to blow-up innocent people on buses, or in markets, or fly planes into buildings aren't fighting for freedom, but are murderers and terrorists.

If Hezbollah, Hamas, al-Queda want to "fight for freedom", etc (and trust me, they won't go away even if we gave them a whole country and called it "Islamic Jihad Palestine" ::))....then they should stick to taking on the military of that country, then people might actually listen to their requests, instead of denouncing them for the terrorists and murderers they are, based on the actions they so far have undertaken.

Re: Not Good News From Israel

I agree Liverpool.I think you've actually lost track of the thread  here.

You will note  it was Phantom who was defending the Israeli terrosist groups Irgun and The Stern gang. With his "What had to be done back in 1946, had to be done, .."

Anyway I'm outta here.PRE isn't the right place for discussing this sort of stuff. This thread seems to have already claimed one victim.

Sounds dramatic evo. Care to elaborate how this thread has claimed a victim?

Almost a million people have been made homeless. $40 million is a pissant amount compared to what is needed and UNICEF was merely stating the obvious.

Then they should take their $40 million back if it's not appreciated and that's their attitude. Tell me Disgr-ace how many other countries have offered $40 million thus far? Surely they should all be getting a bake from you and UNICEF rather than those at least giving something.

Re: Not Good News From Israel

hey everyone

been a busy few days for me.

the last 2 weeks have been the toughest times we as a family have been through. i have had some family in lebanon who have been struggling to get out since the start of the conflict. australian govts evacuations have been a slow and hard process often leaving the evacuees to fend for themselves for days in cyprus and turkey. evacuees have spoken of terrible conditions on the ships. no food, water, air conditioning for seven hours while sleeping on floors etc. the were however fantastic in their efforts of getting all australians out under very difficult circumstances.

my sister, nephews, aunty and cousin decided to take the risk of hiring a taxi driver to drive them to damascus, syria. the driver risked his life and safety but got them there safely ($500 US    ). usualy a 2 hour drive took closer to 3 1/2 because of the destruction of bridges etc by israel. they arrived on saturday night. we are all so happy to have them home.

on another note. i apologise for my racist comments made in a PM to TNBT. the comment should not have been posted on the main board, thats why they are called PM's. however it was but they were never intended to be and if anyone found them offensive, im sorry.

Re: Not Good News From Israel

Agreed. Although I don't agree with all of your views on this issue I am really pleased to hear that your family are okay.

Re: Not Good News From Israel

It must have been the "stating the obvious" bit that confused you jayfox. Hilarious with the name-change thing, by the way. No, really.

Don't feel flattered about the name change thing, that's something I do for everyone. How about you answer my questions though. Is $40 million better than nothing at all? How many other nations had pledged anything at the time that the US did? Why are you not having a crack at most other Western nations for thus far giving nothing? Do you not believe that if EVERYONE gave $40 million then it would go a long way towards helping the situation of many people who need it?

Re: Not Good News From Israel

Flattered? Don't kid yourself. Nothing you could say would flatter me. What is it about "stating the obvious" that you don't understand?

yep...good on'em!  :clap

Just hope Iran, North Korea, Syria, al-Quaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc....follow suit, and prove to the world that they care about their fellow Islamic brothers and sisters.

(P.S: And I know North Korea is NOT an Islamic country, but they are part of the "axis of evil"
