Opposition discussion

Just saw a stat: Matt Rowell took the first contested mark of his career on the weekend, in his 84th game. That's the longest anyone's ever gone without one since they've been recording it. New leader on the course, with 69 games without a contested mark? Nick Daicos.

Reminds me of when his dad was being driven around the G following his retirement. The bloke on the PA was reading out his achievements: "250 games, 549 goals - "
-"And three tackles!" yelled a wag in the crowd.

Had dinner Saturday night with a prominent Lions backer who has a significant sway within. Was furious with what transpired at the MCG on Saturday, internally the backers of the club don't think the club has the leadership to win the flag. They are desperately looking for another Luke Hodge type to import for 24 months to give leadership because they just don't think they have it internally, they feel like Pendlebury was the difference in the Grand Final last year and they had no one doing the same thing. And the same thing on Saturday, no leadership when it mattered. And the same players letting them down when it matters. Certainly going to be interesting to see what happens at Brisbane this year if they fail again.

Feels like a lot of clubs are in turmoil off the ground as well. Richmond not a happy place, Collingwood not a happy place, Melbourne not a happy place, Essendon not a happy place, Carlton not a happy place, WCE not a happy place, GCS not a happy place. It feels like the winds of change will blow hard across the club landscapes this off-season.

Dodoro going , Sheedy going, this morning Graham Wright now not going back to Collingwood, Richmond to announce a new CEO, the next generation of AFL power brokers are coming into vogue and there will be more coming.

GCS not happy off-field? I thought the Dimmassiah was running smoothly.

Nope, they are furious with the playing group and Dimma is regretting the "80% of the premiership team is in this room" comment.

It's being mentioned internally. "How did we miss the finals with 80% of the premiership already here?" type stuff. It's definitely not let's sack Dimma stuff but they are reconsidering the playing ground and where it is at. Longer project than first thoguht. Jack Lukosius won't be the only victim.

Big watch on what Collingwood and Melbourne do this off season.

Both will be aggressive to try and keep the window open, could see them making the mistakes we did with Hopper and Taranto.

Makes you wonder what Stuey Dew is thinking now. Let's see Dimma's 2nd year there, but I just can't see any form of success in a town that's never succeeded to win a title no matter what sport.

Boy, we have so much to work on as a club but that's ok because we are starting a "new era" and " new culture".

But THE ADELAIDE CROWS and Josh Rachelle!! What an absolute disgrace, , making a statement in the last game of the year, that doesn't matter for having a personality. This is Jack Ginnivan at Collingwood all over again. Someone will come in and get him on the cheap. And Nicks looks lost at handling this.

They finished 15th, after rebuilding for four years and it doesn't fill like they are united. A forward line of Fogarty, Thilthrope, Rankine and Rachelle should be exciting as but it just doesn't feel like they are close to anything. Midfield a bunch of plodders, never has a club needed a player more in a draft than the Crows and Sid Draper. We could cook them in trade talks.

"Give us next years first and your 4 to make sure you get Draper, your going to come good next year so it will be a pick 12-16."

Yeah, i wonder if that is a trade both will consider.
Only hitch for us i reckon is pick 4 means we might miss Smith or FOS so it might depend if we can get a top 3 pick- or if we think 1 of the top 3 would go for someone else.

Other option is pick 1 for pick 4 and Rachelle. (But i havent seen enough to know if that is something we should consider.)
