Olympics 2012 - London

Watched the women's basketball last night, they played ok, France just had that little better teamwork and their point guard was the difference. I've now seen Cambage play about 4 or 5 times now and she's done nothing in those games. Was ineffetctive last night and turned the ball over countless times

Liz has struggled so far.... she was really poor defensively last night, she'll get better.
She's a superstar in the making mark my words.....she's only 20 years old.
Don't underestimate the value of Penny Taylor to this team, she is missed greatly.

Hope you are right JE, she's still got lots to learn, looks a little uncoordinated for mine. They do miss Taylor badly

She was a first round 2nd pick overall in the 2011 WNBA draft which says something,
China got on her early... signing her to one of their clubs for 400k a season which is right up there with the highest paid females in the world.

Put in perspective Candace Parker is the highest paid player in the WNBA and the best player in the world imo,
she's only getting 97k a season in the WNBA which is a joke, that's why they play overseas in the off-season.
But that's a whole different matter.

What happened to Penny Taylor?

I think the bigger debate is the Chinese swimmer.
I don't give a stuff how talented a 15 year old is but for people to try and defend a 15 year old female who has just swum faster than the 27 year old male Olympic champion in his peak, in the corresponding event...they are either naive or just plain stupid.

THat has proven to be a misguided argument for those just willing the Chinese swimmer to be a drug taker for whatever racist or tall poppy syndrome reason they harbour.

Three other swimmers in the Lochte's race swam a faster last lap (not an entire race as you have alluded to) and Adington in the 800m has also swum a faster last lap than Lochte.

Buggered if I know why we just can't celebrate a prodigous 15 year old talent. Save the vitriol for proven drug takers.

That's the problem right there jimbob. The drug cheats have cast the shadow of doubt over exceptional performances that may well be clean.
It's why a lot of sport is screwed these days. Shame.

I remember people from other countries saying similar things about Thorpe when he burt onto the scene.

Yeah. Innocent until proven guilty, unless you're Chinese apparently. If she was Aussie or US the headlines would read 'Teen wondergirl raises the bar'. (Which, to his credit, is what Hackett said last night basically).

I also agree with olden that theres always a seed of doubt in your mind now with standout performers.

Don't know if anybody saw Keiren Perkins on the foxtel show last night. Is a wonderful ambassador for the sport and a humble gentleman. His take on the Chinese girl is the best I have heard yet. His quote was pretty close to: Instead of asking why was she so fast, we should be asking why was Lochte so slow.

Was a great interview overall, but I really loved that line, says a lot about him and his competitive nature.

The weightlifting has been amazing!

Hasn't it been awesome. The mens 56kg competition was awesome with the korean winning from the "B" group with a C&J of 3x bodyweight was incredible. Only the fifth man to do so in history.
I am a competitive powerlifter ( bench, squat, deadlift) at about 100kg and wouldn't dream of lifting what they do. I can squat and dead well over 200kg and can clean 140kg and would not go close to getting it overhead. Amazing!

anyone listen to ray hadleys commentary last night? the guy is hopeless. at one stage he was winding up the womens 200 butterfly heat, only to realise after they turned that they still had 100m to go. it was excruciating.

Been up every night watching the olympics love the fact we got foxtel and don't have to watch just the swimming on channel 9. Been watching the volleyball and enjoying it and also the handball has been great even though the only aussie team has been the men in the volleyball.Keep an eye out for Shane Perkins in the track cycling he is a big tigers fan I think his grandfather used to play for the tigers.

He is very poor. His pronunciation of names is sometimes embarrassing.

It just takes a little research and effort to get it right.

Its channel 9. Embarrassing. Third rate, jingoistic. The events where you get the pom commentators are so much better, professional. Its the Channel 9 Sydney thing, its weird. I'm sure its going down fine in sydney, jars everywhere else.

The Kookaburras currently 5-0 up on Spain.. Are they arguably the greatest sports team this country has put out? They're World Champions, Commonwealth Champions and won the last Champion's trophy, if they win gold in London that has them right up there with the best we've produced.
