I thought Parker was worthy of a top 10 pick.

Not sure why clubs over looked him.

I'm still confused.

Regardless of degrees of unhappiness you can give me 6.4 or 8.9, I wanted Heppell. How unhappy I was with Conca is irrelevant to the fact that I wanted Heppell. I fail to see the difference.

The question is how did Frank get both of them wrong? What process was undertaken? That entire draft was a disaster.

Regardless of the promise that O'hanlon is showing (and I think it is a good pick for a need) J-Mac would be in our best 22.

Yeah, I am huge on Ellis. Just a smart composed footballer. Couple of times on Saturday he just did things in the heat of the contest that a player of nine game shouldn't be doing. He will be a beauty over time. I think Francis Jackson is vastly improved at the draft table, I have faith. Between him and Hartley we are in good hands.

Not sure what you're trying to prove there BJ. Scoop was discussing a different draft entirely in the second post.

Need to pull up some old threads about how Schulz will never make it Billy.

to be fair the last two years have been the first where he played a full season, but getting on the park is part of the game. We let him go at 24yo and he had never kicked 20 in a season for us. The most impressive thing about his move is his demeanour. He just looks a whole bunch more comfortable in his own skin now. Whether that is maturity, being home amongst family, being on his last chance or maybe he just didn't fit at Richmond, whatever the reason it seems to have helped a lot and I doubt we missed out on anything because he probably needed the move to transform. Good luck to him.
That's the thing oldie, I do remember when my earlier posts dont quite line up with current reality. Scoop makes out that He always thought Conca v Heppell was a disaster. He did push Heppelll hard and was right but he also stated categorically that he was happy with Conca when he was drafted.

It always amuses me when this topic comes up that we are completely useless because picks 8 and 9 were better than our pick 6. No-one mentions picks 7 or indeed pick 4 who is not even at his draftee club.

If Conca is the worst top 10 we ever take I am happy. So he is worse than two picks taken after him. He is clearly better than 5 of the next 10 picks and arguably better than 8. Keep drafting with those percentages and life will be fine. Just don't give me any more JON's who was worse then all the next 10 picks by a long way. Those are the ones that hurt.

It might amuse you but no-one had Conca on their radar as a first rounder except us. Many knew Heppell was a gun, many knew that he was playing half back flank in his final TAC year because he came back from an injury. Many knew that the game was moving towards taller, stronger midfielders. You might be happy if we ever again do a Conca pick again, trying to be smart by grabbing someone outside the box, particularly when there is so much focus these days on the best young players in the country. I won't be, and contrary to your assertion, I don't believe that was playing the percentages. Conca was a poor selection. He has done nothing to me to suggest he is or will be a better player than Caddy, Heppell, Prestia, Gorringe, Lynch, Tape or Smith (let alone arguably 8 out of the next 10??? what the...). Regardless, there's no guarantees but those players were front and center for selection amongst many teams, unlike Conca. It's all done now, hopefully we can limit the damage and Conca can at least become serviceable from here or we can get a good trade.

can i ask how you know this?
reckon i have read speculation that the 2 WA teams were interested, but ultimately talk of who would have drafted who is. speculation.

Because there are very few, if any, players today who get picked out of the blue in the top 10 and there was no discussion whatsoever about him until very close to draft day. As for interest from the two WA teams, Fremantle's first pick was #20 and WA had already picked Gaff and their next pick was 26. Quite a long way from Pick #6.

PS how good was that draft for Bulldogs getting Wallis at 22 and Liberatore at 41 with father/son picks.

All good. 8-

Needs to be played up forward or in the midfield
Is like a Rabbit in headlights in the back line scared to make a mistake.
Remember his first game against weagles kicked two goals and looked the goods
Do it Dimma

I hate how much he fumbles. If you're slow that's not a good sign.

Kicking is meh too. At the moment I only see role player which is disappointing.

dont see the hype. foot soldier at best

That's the problem. Another early draft pick who is just a foot soldier when we need so much more than that.

Not good enough by the recruiters and developers, not by half

He has shown us what he can do (he was one of our best in that first elimination loss) and he has leadership - is a player.

What we are seeing with him right now is exactly what we are seeing across a fair wack of the team - they are all only going at around 70%. That is what is so frustrating, we know what they can all do individually and as a team, the commentators all know, but for whatever reason - confidence, system, structure - who knows - they are no where near it

He's been Richmondised. His first season was great and it's been all downhill from there.

My God he is slow as well. Treacle.
