He was quite the *smile* again yesterday during commentary.
Par for the course from many commentators nowadays. More n more about the egos of the dribbling media celebrities than actually calling the game and expert analysis.

Despite being the same age or younger, Flossy looked a lot older and more experienced than his opponents yesterday.

Does make a big difference being surrounded by experienced players. It will be interesting to see if in 5 or 6 years whether there a number of broken bodies at GWS and GCS due to lack of protection in their early careers.

Also reminds me of when Lids, Bling, etc. came in and were getting tagged immediately, compared to say a Joel Selwood in his first couple of years. We have the luxury now of providing the same cusioning for Brandon, Floss and future recruits.

I worry a little as his hardness going in to a contest gives away a lot of frees, I don't want him to change, but think he needs to tidy up his tackling technique, to counter other players dropping their heads.

They gave him a couple of good wraps yesterday and rightly so.His attack at the ball is ferocious & his ball use is brilliant.

All those guys are fringe players, granted there's still time but the clock is ticking.

In 2009 we picked Griffiths missed out on Fyfe, Bastinac, Carlisle, Black and Duncan

In 2010 many were calling out for Luke Parker instead of Batchelor, that's looking like a no brainer now.

The Elton, McBean and McDonough selections look promising, but it's way too early to call any a success. I know McBean has a bigger fan club than Jesus, but these things need to be put into perspective, he's a zero gamer who still has a lot to prove. I really hope these guys kick on, it would elevate Frank from a good recruiter to a great one. As it stands now, he's still a long way off the likes of Wells and Hine, these guys have built their reputations on turning average picks into gold. Let's just hope Frank also develops the Midas touch.

It's true. This years crop looks ok but we have taken some big leaps of faith in years gone.

Griff is as good as gone if the jungle drums are true. That pick was a huge risk. Even goons like me could see that. Far too big a punt. No exposed form at all.

And Bully, I was very much in the Bastinac & Parker corner. Our midfield would be the best in the AFL with those two. Wowee.

i wouldnt worry too much U2, hes still young and has all the time in the world to iron out his game.

Had we gone that way I doubt we'd have the pressing need to chase Adams, we could instead focus on getting a small forward and junior ruck. As it stands now, we'll be hard pressed to address all our needs in the next draft and I doubt free agency will be our saving grace given our salary cap woes.

Batch ahead of Parker was a strange one. Parker slipped a long way that year though, from a touted top 10 to what, pick 40. Wonder what gave clubs the slows on him.

The mistake with Griff was not in not taking Bastinac, it was in not taking Carlisle or Black.

Heads or Tails... That's what the club did. Either griffo or Carlisle
At the end of the day Carslisle is up and down and black only plays well against us.

of those players, I think Batch is good enough for AFL level, just has players at Richmond who are better than him. See him or Dea taking Newman's spot in the next season though

This is closer to the truth, the Parker or Bastinac talk is just fantasy and rewriting history. In the context of the time Terry and Greg had left us with a tragic lack of talls, any midfield draft pick was always going to be followed by a tall.

So Jake Batchelor was the answer to our chronic lack of talls? Strange logic indeed. We also offloaded Jay Schulz for a rolly polly back pocket and a skinny runt who couldn't even crack a game in the SANFL firsts. Even if we subscribe to the fantasy line, we overlooked Carlisle, Black and Gunston, all of whom have become solid core footballers. And if the truth be known, it was actually a line ball call between Griffiths and Tapscott, in the end that decision was taken out of our hands. So I can only conclude that your talls at all costs theory is indeed fantasy, a covenient get out clause to mask a some ordinary recruiting. Just for the record, here's the pick of the bunch from the second round.

20 - Nat Fyfe
21 - Ryan Bastinac
24 - Jake Carlisle
25 - Aaron Black
28 - Mitch Duncan
29 - Jack Gunston
