Nathan (Axel) Foley [MERGED]

this thread has come a long way in three years. i started this thread wondering if foley might turn into a williams type player but three years down the track i belive he will be even better. he has williams ability to read the play, courage and quick hands add to this his speed and he will soon be one of the afl's elite midfielders

go axle :clap :clap :clap

Loved his bump that set up Hyde's second. Shows there's a lot more to footy than stats. Guys like Edwards, Reiwoldt, Foley, White (and even Tambling) did a lot of the unrecognised stuff on the weekend.

It can't be done any better than that. Copybook stuff, eh, Freezer?

And when Axel sends the ball in it's usually a great hit.

That was very encouraging as its not something thats been a part of our team for a long time.

What was wrong with Foley last night - 58% disposal efficency and caught numerous times.

We really missed his run and goal assists.

11 posessions in the 1st qtr and then they shut him down. Only 4 in the second and always under pressure.

Needs help. Bring in the cotchman!!!!

Foley didnt have a really good game, he was under the pump all night, but so was everyone else. He will bounce back, he has been really good thus far.

Foley's impact is usually seen in bursting out of clearances and running the ball through the corridor. The Hawks are just about the most effective clearance team going around with their physicality around stoppages and pressure. Foley struggled with the clearances as a result. With their rolling midfield zone, the Hawks also block the corridor well and whenever Foley tries to burst through there, he was under pressure from the numbers that the Hawks have in that area of the ground.

Axel has been struggling a little bit all year I reckon. Just a little scratchy in his decision making.

But there was a big change yesterday. Foley normally does 70 minutes a gme or less. Did 85 against the Hawks. Walace may be putting the acid on him to go up a cog. Something to watch anyway.

That said he's a top flight footballer. That he's no longer our only footballer is the reason we're winning some games and not imploding in others.

Typical Foley Dash

By far the best Midfielder on the night

He stuck it right up em

The dreamteam got of to a good start because their midfield was firing.. Axel came onto the ground and started getting clearances which started turning the game around. In my opinion should have been given the Allen Alyett medal for BOG. Well done Axel

If Bomber Thompson hadn't been biased against him and given him more game time (only 64% compared with most others in the 80%'s), he would have been clearly the best midfielder for the Vics. At least he got a reasonable run, didn't get injured and got himself well placed for an AA selection later this year.

its not only foley, but also simmo and richo the dont get cred compared to players from other teams.

Foley is often mentioned as a passing comment most of the time by the commentators.

Yep I though Axe was a huge reason the Vics got back in the game.
When he got his chance you could see he was relishing the opportunity.

a real mickey mouse game. but what i wouldnt give for us to have one more exactly like foley.
