Nathan (Axel) Foley [MERGED]

Both Judd and Kerr shrug a tackle as good as any player in the league, they are well balanced and hold their ground.

Didnt surprise me to see Axel and Bretta in the top 5 for bounces in the league, its a bs stat that the coaches want to show that you can hold onto the ball and cut the angles. To me its a waste of time and players who move the ball on quicker should get awarded.

Playing on after taking a mark is a stat I like.

Just wanted to mention Axe's 27 possesions on Sunday normally pure volume stats are not that crucial but the fact that he got 27 on Sewell shows how much he is busting his guts to be better player ,not each one hit the target but most were under extreme pressure an just showed his terrific work rate

Also going to be intresting to see how Axel handles the next eight weeks.

He will be tagged every week and he hasn't played a entire season of being a top flight on baller with so much ground time. Might not have all that much left in the tank, he would have a few more niggles then this time last year. He throws himself around like a wrecking ball.

He should have the B&F just about in the bag but hopefully he continues his stellar form.

He will be one of the subplots that I will take intrest in as the year goes on.

This stat surprise me somewhat too CC when I saw it. Thought Hawthorn cut him out well, but shows how hard he is prepared to work even when he is being tagged or off the ball.

Lids needs to follow the lead now.

Not being 100% sure on the Rising Star rules, why does Foley not qualify this year...?

Is it his age...?

Is Nathan Foley the best "rags to riches" story ever? ie. His transformation - not just his football ability/output but his physique.

I remember very early in his career, vs the bulldogs (I think) at the dome, he looked pudgy, slow and was wearing long sleeves.

:clap

That is why the Rising star award is no good.
It should be for players under 50 games and 21 years of age.
Edward has no chance for this year as he is been played before he is ready and has already played more than 10 games so he can not win next year.
You are better not to play for the first 2 years of your career. If you are to win the award.

Thanks TMad and Mrs T - forgot about last year's nomination. Didn't realise he'd played more than 10 games though.

I reckon most young players would prefer to play whenever they get the chance and most would not give two hoots about the rising star award.

Yes i agree but for a player to win it better if they have been around for a year or two.

As the new pres for Axel i thought it is appropriate being my 100th post to post here cant wait for season to start your a gun Axel and you make our future seem so bright Bring on 2008 u will get the dyer medal this time around no worries

Who is going to step up and help him out?

Who have we got?... At the moment.. ready to go

If Foley gets tagged week in week out, who is there to alleviate the pressure. Cut him out, it will really dry up supply.

Meh, opposition coaches would have known all about Foley through the second half of last season. It was no secret that Foley was carving it up, and AFL coaches don't miss that sort of stuff. He would have been getting plenty of attention last year - who else in the midfield was worth tagging?

I reckon he'll go ok, so long as Tuck and Johnson are around to help with the extraction duties. That was the problem on Sunday against the Roos, we relied on him alone too much to get first use of the ball.

Certainly was less effective towards the ned of the season and hasn't set the world on fire so far this year either.
You've heard the catchcry No Foley - No Richmond...
Desperately need some added class in the middle because at the moment we are a one man show.
