Totally agree & can't phantom why even crap is written against one of our bright light this year !

Re: Nathan Foley has the heart of a lion.

Foley is fantastic. We've actually lucked in with him. He looks as polished a rover as anyone we've had since Dale Weightman. He would get a game with any other team in the competition and he's ours. In a very dark time, he's a shining light who'll be around for a long time to come.

Summed it up nicely Dyer. They can't all kick like Judd. In today's game it's becoming more and more important to be able to win clearances and without this bloke we'd be absolutely screwed. If Cogs ever makes it back to his 2003/5 form they'll make an excellent combo.

All of you saying he should leave because he's too good for Richmond are melodramatic fools.

And add why even supporters would want a player to leave the club. Maybe they don't want the club to never achieve and give them the excuse to continue to bash RFC !

Re: Nathan Foley has the heart of a lion.

Love Foley but why does he bounce as soon as he gets the footy?

They do it to take the pressure off at the time of disposal. It gives a hasty player time to clear his head, take stock, think.

Axel hardly ever run down from behind. He hits the gas and is lightning from 0-25kmh.

So Foley's in space, by bouncing straight away, he buys an extra five metres of eyes up time before he has to think about bouncing again or hurriedly use. It gives time for the adrenalin to abate a little. Vision time. Disposal time.

It's also a kind of taunt for the opposition to challenge him from front on which might cause an overlap.

A lot of the younger players will not use the ball by hand unless they've drawn an opponent. I reckon it's a team rule. It's better than a shepherd and one of the reasons we figure so low in shepherd counts (another reason is that we're light, lazy or inexperienced).

What I'm saying is that instead of handballing then shepherding, you only handball when an opponent has committed to a tackle. He's off balance when you dispose and if you time the release right he either can't touch you or he has to let go straight away. If he's not on the deck, he's off balance and easier to put there.

So, Foley's bounced straight away. His eyes are up. He has a dozen strides before he has to use it. If he draws an opponent, he can handball forward to an un-manned team-mate, if not he kicks when in the clear or takes another bounce. His vision is clear. His mind is clear.

Re: Nathan Foley has the heart of a lion.

Love Nathan's attitude. I haven't seen this week's game and don't think I'll bother. Can anyone tell me who Nathan was playing on or who was playing on him please?

Re: Nathan Foley has the heart of a lion.

Well done to Foley on his season.Would just like to see him improve his disposal.

Mb there is nothing structurally wrong with Nathan's kicking - he has good skills. I think he has alot of improvement in him though - the next progression, which he should gain with experience, is more compusure with the free ball, raising his vision a bit and spotting targets further up field or to fat side of the ground. The only thing that dispaoints me with Nathan ATM is his decison making sometimes with the dead ball (ie from a free kick or mark). Experience and confidence will make him a better player in this regard. He already is the BEST clearance player in the league and he was close to best last year when you factored in TOG (as I stated ad infinitum andad nauseum in my exchanges with Rayzorwire).

He had 97% effective disposal against the Power. Not too much room for improvement there.

The comment wasn't based on 1 game.

Re: Nathan Foley has the heart of a lion.

Foley's heart cannot be questioned and that is great, however the sad thing about this thread in my eyes is that we are applauding the courage and efforts of a particular player when in reality his effort is what supporters and coach should expect from ALL players each week.

Using the best team as an example, the majority of West Coast players show the desire of Foley every week. He is not doing above and beyond what is expected, it is just that the majority of his team mates are not showing his desire which makes him stand out like dog knackers.... sad indeed.

Says a lot about the man when he can do it while no-one else is.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Commander of the Armies of Tigerland,
General of the Tiger Legions,
loyal servant to the true emperor, Jackus Dyus,
father to a murdered club spirit,
husband to a murdered club soul,
and I will have my vengeance -- in this season or the next.

Next Tiger Captain.

Hes playing a great game, would be in top 2 or 3 in B&F so far

If he is not a FREEWAY in front I will be shocked. The next closest in consistency has been Polak IMHO.

An example of how good his hands are, one week, he got tackled and gave a lightning handball out, so fast in fact that the upire deemed it a throw. In slow mo, you could see it as a proper handball.

Foley and Polak are two decent things to take out of this abysmal season.

Re: Nathan Foley has the heart of a lion.

Tigers are the heaviest cats found in the wild. Although different subspecies of tiger have different characteristics, in general male tigers weigh between 200 and 320 kilograms (440 and 700 lb) and females between 120 and 181 kg (265 and 400 lb). On average, males are between 2.6 and 3.3 metres (8 ft 6 in to 10 ft 8 in) in length, and females are between 2.3 and 2.75 metres (7 ft 6 in and 9 ft) in length.

The male lion, easily recognized by his mane, can weigh between 150-225 kg (330-500 lb) and females range from 120-150 kg (260-330 lb)], and average around 125 kg (275 lb). The largest captive African lion weighed 366 kilograms (806 lb). Head and body length is 170 to 250 cm (5'7" to 8'2") in males and 140 to 175 cm (4'7" to 5'9") in females; shoulder height is about 123 cm (4') in males and 100 cm (3'3") in females.

So with the Tiger being the larger and presumably the stronger of the two species, wouldn't it also have a larger heart to support it.

Therefore I hope that FOLEY has the heart of a TIGER!

Our best player to date.
Just love the way he goes about it.
How good would he be if we had a ruckman.

Just a casual observation not sure if it has been mentioned before but in his profile photo it looks like he has a cut under the eye just showing how tough he is!!
