Nankervis !!

Did maric ruck at all?

It looked to me to be mainly Maric early for the Alternates, DDT. Nank, naturally, wiped the floor with the old boy. I thought Soldo was more in the second and third stanzas.

Nankervis is a very smart player. His use of his body is excellent. And his deft taps can be inspired at times. He did some clever things that other AFL rucks just wouldn't think to do. His marking was clean. (No real big-man opposition but.)

Nankervis doesn't get much air. So we'll probably play Hampson too. My take is that Griffens is the insurance (such as that might be).

We couldn't possibly play Nankervis and Hampson in the same team.

Has to be Nankervis as first ruck alternating with Griffiths.

I don't recall Griff going up in a ruck contest and if he is going to provide relief in the season proper it would make sense that he should get a crack in the intra club ahead of Chol, who got quite a bit of time there.

I'm not certain Griff didn't have a crack in the ruck though - he was inconspicuous all game. I'm very interested to see what his role is in the JLT.

Tankervis was impressive and moved around the ground well against lightweight opposition yesterday. Did at least half a dozen clever 1%s. Agree with you, JD, footy smarts are rare in a ruck and will help the Tank when he comes up against Gawn, Goldy and the like. It's highly likely that Nankervis leaks badly at times in games in 2017 while he is still finding his feet, but his footy IQ should help him to stem the bleeding when that occurs.

A promising start from The Tank yesterday, can't wait to see him against Jacobs in a couple of weeks.

We absolutely shouldn't but we might.

Depends on whether the 2016 Dimma has been replaced with a more logical 2017 Dimma.

Interesting big jack, i desperately want Nank to play as i dont think ive seen a more poor player in AFL than Hammer, not ruck but player...

Your observation differs from others as most said he had couldn't take a grab which for a big bloke is awful (hence the beginning of Hammers problems)...

Id rather it be Nank and Griff than hammer and Nank

Apparently did well today in the intra club game.
For mine this is the best news to come out of the first hitout(so to speak).
If Toby can be our No1 ruck then that is a fantastic trade..

Fingers crossed..
i reckon it's a handy trade anyway, pick 46 is a very low price.

Nank will be our first ruck, it will be a very different midfield this year. I think a lot of clubs will be taken off guard.
agreed, Cotch/Dusty/Prestia(if stays fit is elite)/Miles/Vlaustuin/Caddy is a very handy on ball brigade & allows others (including Cotchin) to be a bit more outside. question is can we play all of the above in the same side with Conca etc as well?

I've got my fingers crossed that Nankervis will prove to be erudite recruiting by RFC and that he plays a significant contributory role as the season progresses. He's not an absolute gun but he does possess some ability and attributes that Hampson, Griffiths and Vickery lack(ed) in the rucking role. I particularly like his desire to keep presenting at contests and his second efforts.

Anything is possible.

We still have the same coach who tried to persist with Maric and Hampson.

Horses for courses. Against certain teams we absolutely should play both.

Looks like he's found his tank at least!

Yes they can all play as long as they bring their A game

If we have Nank and Hampy or Nank and Ivan or Ivan and Nank then we know we are in trouble.

Nanks could hold the key to our next decade.

If he booms, were a chance.

coming from a self-confessed ruckophile.

With Vickery gone (and not replaced) I reckon they will play both throughout the season. I shudder at the idea of hammer resting on the forward line though.

Geez, hope not. Nank and definately Hampson will be liabilities in the forward half.

I think Nank might work. That first half of the final he played he hit Buddy on the tit with a beautiful pass which Buddy goaled from and then crashed a few packs and brought quite a few down to ground for scores.

Nice fluid kick as well.

But I can agree that it can be only one of Griff or Nank down forward at a time mostly and definitely none of Hampson.

Teams with ruck depth and who have a tendency of playing more than 1 ruck. Sydney (Naismith Tippet Sinclair), Geelong (Stanley Smith Blicavs), Giants (Mumford Lobb), Freo (Sandi, Griffin, Clarke) WC (NicNat, Lycett and Vardy) would all be possibilities depending on team selection/match-ups
