Nankervis !!

I’ll never understand criticism of this bloke , might get beat in the hitouts by the 7 footers , however rarely has he been beaten all over the ground since he’s been a Tiger .

3 time Premiership ruckman , that’s a lot of finals he’s got the job done

Yep. His ground work, disposal count, pressure, tackles and positioning make him invaluable. Amazed that some here saw Soldo and then Miller as better options.

And he's a leader - we walk taller when he's on the park.

Second game back and he's already smashing it.

Boooooo!

I love Ryan, he shows great potential, and is having great moments in games. Miller shows flashes and is an ok back up- but pretty much every game those 2 were our rucks we got beaten up late by opposition rucks- the 2 games we didnt were against the Weagles, and the Cats- who had a 45yo Ceglar and Blicavs as their rucks. Against strong rucks they just couldnt sustain the effort.

Nank had coaches votes in the first 3 games of the year, before getting injured rd 4. He is clearly our no1 ruck in 2023, and probably in 2024 and 2025 as well.

Love Nank. A great Penguin legend.

But he got beat on the weekend. Briggs clearly won the ruck dual, so hardly smashing it.

Briggs kicked two goals, had 30 hitouts to Nank's 27, but Nank beat him on every other stat. This is Nank's value to me - less about winning the hitouts, more about all the other things he does. Even if you think Briggs was marginally better, Nank plays a hugely important role for us and he's only two weeks back from a major injury.

So IMO he's smashing it. We'd have lost that game without Nank.

His contests after ball ups in the centre were excellent. Forced the ball wide to our advantage multiple times

He constantly looks after his team mates, protects them puts his body on the line shepherds, does a lot of bullocking work that is missed by the masses. An excellent team member, fantastic around the ground. We're lucky to have him, really missed him when he was injured.

He was beaten up by briggs.

Put on his arse.

Had two goals kicked on him.

Can't deny that.

But he was huge in the last 5 minutes. It's what a 3 time premiership ruckman does. Unfortunately he's getting beaten in more contests than he's winning at the moment. As a result he's trying to do too much and often stuffing up spread too.

Still our most established ruckman. Next year will be another discussion.

We didn't really. Got half our wins without him.

Conversely, we would have lost this weekend without him.

Nank beat him in every stat - Nah.

Briggs clearances 6-3 (5-1 from centre)
Briggs score involvements 7-5
Briggs tackles 9-3

Whilst crucial to our win as we needed him, Nank got out Nanked on the weekend.

Reckon he has only lowered his colours in one final - the 2018 prelim. Has outplayed the opoosing ruckman or at least broke even in every other final.

Club legend. His contribution will never be diminished.

But he's always starting from a physical disadvantage and at times it's stark. Think it's his last year as the assumed No.1.

Nank's value is less about winning the hitouts?

I know what you are saying and to a large extent I agree.

But the thing is, if Nank's value is not in hitouts, and he is our number 1 ruck, then I reckon we have a problem.

i wouldn't say it's a problem necessarily, we won three flags with Nank as an undersized first ruck who often lost the hitout count. And in 2017 we had Griggs as backup.

It does leave us at a disadvantage when going up against a gun ruck who can win a lot of hitouts to advantage, although Nank can pretty good at nullifying his opponents. At times it has been a problem, at other times Nank has been effective against better and taller rucks.

The game keeps evolving and rucks are looking a bit more important than back in 2017. Maybe teams have learned more about combating the less effective ruck.

I think we're all aware of Nank's strengths and weaknesses, he remains a valuable player but at times a worry.
