that means moreton is your athletic utility, a bit like andrew embley
this type of player is an icing on the cake type which works well with the eagles because they have cox, judd, kerr, cousins.....

what we need is the flour in the middle, the substance that allows the icing to stick

we need a hard nose big bodied mid who wins his own ball, tackles, chases and blocks and stands up under pressure - he protects and brings players like lids, foley & tambo into the game.

im not sure who that player is in the draft but thats what we need
Yes but you generally don't have to use ridiculously high draft picks to get those types either. Go for pure talent with pick 2 say, Cotchin or Morton and then use picks 18 and 19 on maybe a Selwood/Veszpremi/Ward and Gaertner/Simpson/Gourdis. That's unless we trade pick 19 and a player to upgarde to another first rounder which would be awesome.

Next year we go for a Naitanui/Yarran/Rich/Suban combo with our early picks and suddenly the house is looking a lot tidier ;)

A bit of common sense in this thinking, you can pick the hard nuts later in the draft and also the rookie draft, remember Foley and King were rookies, Mitchell was a rookie, so the adage about drafting class early is the right approach.
My preferance for our first pick is Morton as he is a Rolls Royce, those that are saying he cant get his own ball perhaps dont watch him closely enough, this kid just has a huge motor and sensational skills. Just ask the kids who played on him during the recent carnival they will tell you.
Having said all of that I don't mind Cotchin either but if given a choice would take Morton then draft some hard nut mids and good talls.
Anyway thats my two bobs worth.

Lookiing more likely that Cale will be a Tiger next year!

Where is his exact position, and who can you compare him to?

Looks like it with Mitch signalling his intentions that he wants to be a Tiger!

Thats what im saying, no doubt we'll overlook Cale now. HMmmm im a bit disappointed because I had my heart set on Cotchin, but, Cale dosnt sound too shabby at all ;)

This is what I have been trying to say - I have not been trying to SELL Morton to everyone, but merely emphasise the fact that he is the most likely on the radar for the RFC with pick 2 - as well as a Rance (to be traded up for).

Like most of us here, I am tired of us taking semi speculative picks (ala JON, Meyer, Pattison) and would prefer it if we took the "safer" Cotchin.

Mind you, there are many out there that have bemoaned our lack of "spine" players - what does Morton and Rance suggest to you?????

I would be leaning towards Cale if we can get Mitch because the go home factor isnt likely to be an issue if he has his brothers both in melbourne.

Anyone know how he went in his grand final today?

Cale is playing in the Colts GF tomorrow and Mitch in the Seniors also tomorrow.

Can someone remind me of these guys vital stats. EG: Height, weight, strengths, weaknesses etc.
I mean it's no good getting excited if they are a way off playing seniors in the near future. Or if they are anywhere being claws favourite "D" words.

Thats pencil thin, looking at the Coburg lists in the sat hun it puts him 1cm taller than and eleven kilos lighter than Mcguane or 1cm shorter than Schulz and twenty kilos lighter.
Guess it just goes to remind people how much difference a few preseasons and a bit of natural filling out can make to a stick figure kid.

WA boys always seem to start off skinny.

It's because, as juniors, they don't do the weights that the TAC boys do.

JON anyone WA boy pencil thin still is pencil thin, Cotchin all the way. We need to draft body types not just heights.

JON boy is listed in the hun at 188 cm and 91 kg, Dan Jackson is listed at 187 cm and 90 kg.
I said g'day to Jarrod in the rooms when he had his arm in a sling from when he'd busted his collar bone. He had the shoulder span to suggest that when he started to fill out he would be a reasonable size.
I took a good look at him against Willy last week and he is filling out nicely. Doubt he will ever be a tank but he's listed as still being 19 y.o. so would expect him to gain a few more kg as his body matures.
There's still a heap of development to come in this kid, I think he can cement himself a spot by the time he turns 21.
