Agree Tango. A backline including these three has the makings to get bye if we can stop the ball coming in so often. I have a feeling that Patto could become a CHB and hold that down successfully. As you point out we need mids and desparately need another ruckman. My choice r'man of those likely to be recruitable is Moran.Tango said:and none of them have taken us anywhere in the past so whats the big deal
our midfield has been sh!te for 10 years and we have got by with average backs and fwds
kill them in the middle and the rest looks after itself - ala west coast
in 2 years our backline of polak, thursty, mcganne will be good enough if we are slaying them in the middle....
get genuine class in the middle and you will play finals regardless of what else you have
add a couple of good KPP back and fwd plus a solid ruck and you are going very close to a premiership
Yes but you generally don't have to use ridiculously high draft picks to get those types either. Go for pure talent with pick 2 say, Cotchin or Morton and then use picks 18 and 19 on maybe a Selwood/Veszpremi/Ward and Gaertner/Simpson/Gourdis. That's unless we trade pick 19 and a player to upgarde to another first rounder which would be awesome.Tango said:that means moreton is your athletic utility, a bit like andrew embley
this type of player is an icing on the cake type which works well with the eagles because they have cox, judd, kerr, cousins.....
what we need is the flour in the middle, the substance that allows the icing to stick
we need a hard nose big bodied mid who wins his own ball, tackles, chases and blocks and stands up under pressure - he protects and brings players like lids, foley & tambo into the game.
im not sure who that player is in the draft but thats what we need
*smile* Phantom thats a bloody huge tag to hang on a kid.Phantom said:I've been trying to think of a recent parallel player to describe Cale Morton.
Koutafidemedes came to mind.

Don't get to see the juniors play Phantom, but I wouldn't be to keen on sticking tags on under 18 kids like Voss or Hird or Kouta before they even start.Phantom said:TigerMasochist said:Phantom said:I've been trying to think of a recent parallel player to describe Cale Morton.

Tell me what he HASN'T done in junior footy this year to deserve it.
Certainly has the physical & skill characteristics of a Kouta.
TigerMasochist said:Guess the question to be asked is why isn't he being called as number one contender if he is to be claimed as Kouta like.

In the minds of quite a few of the recruiters, he is no.1
But most also believe that Carlton will pick on "need" before "ability".
Besides, Carlton know that if they don't pick Kreuzer first, we will.
They also know that if they pick Kreuzer first, we will most likely go for Cotchin.
That leaves Morton to them anyway.
NO WAY...Hurn has shown glimpses but he aint no game breaker...LudicrousCptJonno2Madcow2005 said:Was thinking of Hurn Harry lolHarry said:Pick 2 for Hurn and Hunter ?

Morton, Palmer or Masten?
