Matthew McDonough

Re: Welcome Matthew McDonough at pick 42

his a better p[layer than nahas..and monsterously better than morris....bring him in this week and give him the rest of the year........bringing newman in instead would be ridiculous.he hasn't played a good game for 3 years ..

Please Dimma give this kid an opportunity in the seniors I really believe Matt has the ability to become a really good HFF with the ability to go in the midfield and have an impact. HE JUST NEEDS A FAIR GO!!!!!!
Fair go are the key words there. He probably won't set the world on fire or win the game off his own boot, but he needs to be given a few games to prove himself.

Re: Welcome Matthew McDonough at pick 42

doesn't look fit to me, carrying an extra couple of kegs by the looks of him

Re: Welcome Matthew McDonough at pick 42

VFL highlights of McDonut and Lambert. Looked ok. But gee two things spiked my interest:

1. Short running the ball through the middle and spotting up a target inside 50. Looks classy

2. McKenzie - gets me excited. Throws his body around, makes a contest. He will be intimidating blokes in the VFL before too long, if he's not already.

Yeah, that's where highlights are misleading. Short had 8 touches, McKenzie probably fewer. They both have talent, but they're a long way off yet.

I look for the glimpses in first year players.

Re: Welcome Matthew McDonough at pick 42

Mudguts McDonough. Get him in to eat all the pies and snag a few sausage rolls v the Swans I say.

Re: Welcome Matthew McDonough at pick 42

Wins his own ball as evidenced by his clearance numbers. Would at least demand the repect of oppo as has the ability to hurt with ball in hand. Would bring him in for Cellis and make Morris the sub. This is the ideal week to be bold at selection , no one gives us a chance so its like a free hit

Re: Welcome Matthew McDonough at pick 42

just dont understand the McD love - every time he's played seniors he's been found out - continually rushing and lacking composure - I don't think that can be changed. Not a keeper.

I think Shane Edwards was a little like that early days.

In stark contrast to those breathtaking diplays by Morris

Thought the discussion was about McD - 2 wrongs don't make a right...

Maybe the correctly held belief that if he isn't pin-point perfect, along with racking up big numbers, he will be dropped straight back to the ressies. And guess what...

I would really like to see McD get a solid month in the side so that he knows he belongs and will still be there as he gets up to speed.

maybe a little... but you're not honestly comparing the 2 are you?
Edwards showed flashes of brillance from day 1 - McD zippo at senior level.
Listening to his website interview he appears frustrated at the way he's been moved up and down the ground - i don't think it's clear where his best position is yet .... maybe there isn't one but whatever the case he hasn't shown it yet.......would be a bonus if he does.

Correct two wrongs don't make a right but I think it is fair to pose the question that if Mcd had been given 11 straight games with high % game time would his output have been greater than that of Morris.

you

Re: Welcome Matthew McDonough at pick 42

Presumably there will be at least two outs for Sydney (Ellis injured and 4 possession Mcintosh) so alongside the given of Newman it would be good to see McDonough get a chance - I'm not sure anyone else has held their hand up higher in the VFL. Then keep him in for GWS and Carlton, three games that would be a fair test of his aptitude.

Re: Welcome Matthew McDonough at pick 42

Played more different roles than he's actually played matches.

Given he was drafted as a half forward, who was a good mark for his size with excellent finishing skills, maybe we should try him there.

I think he could play a similar role to LeCras at West Coast.

Re: Welcome Matthew McDonough at pick 42

specialist sub and scapegoat is his best position
